Yes, similar to the Mr. Clean approach except they no longer produce the filters for Mr. Clean so you have to pay an arm and a leg for them on eBay.

Hooked it up in 20 minutes. I've got a little leakage around the connections when its on which I will try and use plumber tape to elimitinate (but a bucket under it works fine right now). I am using it with a Turbo-wash nozzle at the end of my hose (http://www.turbowash.com/).

Looks like a great idea. I think I'll try it, but make it so I can screw it on the end of the hose and use it only when rinsing my cars. I do have a softener but my black car still spots.

Since they discontinued the Mr. Clean products and I can't seem to find anything quite like it, I just use touch free car wash systems. I try to find gas stations, convenience stores or independent car washes who use the systems from Ryko.com. When I can't find these I also like the Express Lane Drive-Thru Systems made by MacNeilWash.com. One of the best car washes I have used was at a local gas station, Sunrise shell in Miami, Florida, while travelling last summer.

Great idea, been thinking about a 'spotless' water filter just for washing my cars. Has anyone tried it yet? Will it work as well as the more expensive water filtering gadgets advertised? Thanks for the post.

Exactly why I wash mine with Unicorn tears. Sometimes I feel bad punching them in the face to produce the tears but it is for a Porsche.

The house I'm renting has a spigot in the garage that is hooked up after the water softener and water heater, so I can get warm, soft water for washing. It is a thing of beauty. On top of that, the water heater is a heat exchanger, so any heat that goes into the water gets pulled out of the air in the garage, dehumidifying it in the process!

I tried the Mr. Clean system years ago and was less than impressed. I've seen the commercial de-ionizers before but I believe they were around $300. This looks like a reasonable alternative although I doubt my filter would last 2 years. Too many minerals in my water supply.
