Question Is this normal? passenger airbag cover fitment

Is this fitment of the airbag cover normal? It is close to flush at the top, but not at the bottom (where indicated in green.) To my knowledge the airbag has never been deployed.

I just looked at a car today that had the same issue.

A 2002 with just 22K miles and no carfax accident history. Someone please advise.

1. Remove black cover below the RH dashboard.

2. Loosen two 13mm bolts that attach the airbag to dashboard frame.

3. Push airbag cover and thus the airbag forward ( inwards ) so that the cover is flush.

4. Tighten the bolts.

5. Attach the cover.

Done.

I had to remove my airbag temporarily when I was installing Eberspächer heater. Before that the cover was not flush at the bottom, now it is. I also was worried about my airbag being deployed, but it was made 1999.

I will give it a try ... Also can the door cover/door be opened to look behind it or is it attached to the bag some how?

Not sure about all Porsches but when my 08 Cayman S hit and passenger (and driver) airbag deployed the passenger airbag deployment destroyed the dash. After a passenger airbag deployment the entire dash must be replaced (at over $2K cost).

You'll have to look closely at the air bag panel to see if it is entirely separate and not connected to the dash.

If any airbag deployed the airbag controller will have a record of this. The number of deployments (up to 3 I think) are permanently recorded and can not be erased. A PPI should always check for any airbag deployment events and if possible if the airbag controller has been replaced. (After 3 deployments the controller must be replaced.)

Sincerely,

Macster.

this pic is not as clean because I was taking pics for another reason, there is mud on the pedals and overall its just dirtier, but it shows about what it looks like a year later (almost to the day - this pic was in Aug 09' the first was Aug 08'

The cover and the bag are paired, cover's hinge is attached to bag's frame.
