Default Scottsdale Porsche - A good dealer story.

Today I went in to Scottsdale Porsche on my lunch hour with a simple problem: Front drivers turn signal out on my 03 C4S.

Assuming it was just a bulb I bought one at the parts counter for $9.

I didn't have the headlight removal tool so the parts counter guy came out and removed my headlight assembly with their tool and helped me replace the bulb.

No workee. - He R&R the ***'y agin. Still no workee.

He called a tech out (who happed to be sitting in the service writers office on his break or lunch) and he came out to the drive and removed the assmbly re-installed and still did not work. He R&R agiain & tried cleaning the contacts. still no workee

I assumed at this point they were going to have me take it into service.

The tech then had the parts guy and go get a new lamp socket and he R&R the assembly again with the new part and wa-la problem fixed.

This all took place over 15 Min. or so in the service drive.

I paid the $20 for the new socket Thanked the parts guy and the tech and was hapily on my way.

This may seem simple but I feel they both went out of their way to help me.

So thanks to them.

Too few and far between though.

Similar story with my 02 C4S. Went in for annual NC State safety inspection and my drivers front turn signal not working. Tried to buy bulb at parts dept. at Hendrick, but they were not in stock. Service manager popped out the bulb from the assembly, cleaned the contact, reinstalled. voila! It worked - no charge fix. Thanks, Quentin... Passed inspection, on my way I went.

I had some similar experiences with Prestige Porsche whose parts department always takes very good care of me!

I'll be damned, last time I went to the dealer they didn't have a loaner available and wouldn't pay for a rental--never mind that I was giving them $300 for 20 minutes worth of work.

As for the signal, one of my rear fogs is out, replaced the bulb and it's still out. So should I try popping out the bulb and cleaning up the contacts in the socket?

They tried cleaning my socket first. When that did not work they replaced it and it worked.

IIRC, There is only a single rear fog light.
The right side is not wired for the light even though there is a socket.
This is to prevent those behind you from thinking you are on the brakes.

Well I'll be...

But it just looks so broken, and I hate driving around with people thinking I don't care about the car. Well I guess it doesn't matter, as it's never been foggy enough to warrant using them.

Dave, you can run a "jumper" wire from the left rear fog light to the right rear fog light to make it illuminate. It is very easy to do (takes about 20 to 30 minutes) and you can run the wire into the engine bay and under the lip of the engine bay by removing the 4 screws on the rear lower lip of the engine bay.
NOTE: You do this mod at your own risk....no warranty expressed or implied.....YMMV.... yada, yada, yada.

Use the rear for lights only in fog or in a HEAVY rainstorm, because the lights are extremely bright and can blind those behind you.
