Default dealer prices in canada are really just crazy

So my deal feel through and decided to call around today.

http://pfaff.porschedealer.com/2006/...90488/info.php

I've been eyeing this car for awhile (it listed in july) but hesitated due to the price, and colour. I’d prefer nav (yes, can do the upgrade), and would prefer white or slate grey, but i have to start to be more accommodating.

Gave them a call today and said I'd be willing to come this weekend and make an offer in the high 60s, but they just aren’t willing to deal. Its listed at 79,9 and they said they'd only accept something within a few thousand. Crazy!

The hunt continues!

With the dollar almost back at par, they better wake up. Knowing what they paid for it on trade would be interesting. I wonder if it's a lease return?

It looked like it based on the autocheck link.

I told them this car was < 60 US. He didnt seem to care. Go figure.

I'd say just take your time and keep looking south of the border. It is a buyer's market with tons of choice. Be sure to enjoy the hunt.

Of course they don't; they know some sucker will pay it.

Just before the price hike a few weeks ago, the price difference on a 2009 Carrera 2 was $18,500 based on the dollar at par, which it pretty well is.

I guess for that extra $18,500, we get an extra 2 cylinders up here.

My experience with the dealers is that they really get their back up when you make comparisons to US cars. They go on their fear campaign of declining values being worse with US cars, importation costs, etc etc. While they may have their collective heads up their *****, it still doesn't equate to a valuable bargaining tool on the part of the buyer.

Funny thing is, if it is such a hot deal as they put it, why hasn't it sold?

But it just isn't Porsche. Its Canadian business...period! Honda Canada had this BS blurb on their web site of why you should buy a Canadian Honda.

Just look at Wal-Mart. Their Mobil 1 oil is $42 up here, but $22 down there. Their excuse will most likely be that they are competitive...with Crappy Tire...as if the border was a solid wall.

I shop stateside...A LOT.

Funny, I have the same experience looking at this one here:
http://pfaff.porschedealer.com/2005/...04097/info.php

The car has been listed since July 21 and was originally $74k and is now down to $70k. I was there on the weekend and I told the guy that he probably got it as a lease end and the residual on it was probably in the mid to high $50s, so I said I will go no more than mid $60s, he told me the car has already been discounted $4k but I am welcome to offer $66k. I said no thanks and left.

and don't forget the 1200 dollar extrotion fee to Porsche if oyu buy one in the US. I brought it up at the get together and was told it was really an inspection fee.... but if you don't pay it tyou don't get to keep your car in canada and it has to go back .. and even then the 1200 is a minimum .. so it is still basically extortion by Porsche Canada . payoff money to them if you bring a car in from the US.

With the dollar at virtual par, and the greater selection in the U.S.,
I think there would be a lot to feel good about with regard to
a U.S. purchase.

I was looking at some mk I 997 GT3RS's

US I've seen 112-125k
Canada 168-178k

Canadian GT3 with xenons and Porsche crest in head rest - 121k
US decked out with Ceramic brakes, Nav, Xenons, sport crono plus, Porsche crest in head rest 89k

That is crazy
