Default 2017 718 Cayman s or 2019 Cayman?

trying to help my father determine if a used 2017 Cayman s with 4k miles or a brand new 2019 Cayman is the way to go? Similar colors and interior, etc. and essentially the same price considering the options.

What are the advantages of the used 2017 Cayman s or the new 2019 Cayman that are not obvious from the difference in specifications? We see the 2.0 vs 2.5, 300 vs 350 hp, etc....

In other words, why buy a slightly higher performance used car than a brand new car? Will anyone notice the difference if they are not trying to set timed laps? Based on options, taxes, etc. they are essentially the same price.

Thanks

For the same price, I would go with the newer car.

I have a 2017 Cayman S PDK, and a gearshift 2018 Cayman (my girlfriend drives the S), my car has after market exhaust, downpipe, cobb tune, suspension work, short shift kit, and a throttle controller. I think it is a lot more fun than the PDK S and I think it just might be faster and more nimble too. my suggestion would be buy the car with the options your father wants, and if he is not sure what those options are he should find that out first. It was not easy to find a gearshift 718 with the options I wanted.

The base model has a lot of turbo lag at lower RPMs, whereas the S is more responsive at low RPMs with its variable turbine geometry and bigger displacement.

Do lots of research and look at and drive different variations of Cayman's. You'll quickly find out what options and colors and performance level (base, S, GTS) you like.

In MY OPINION.... if all else is equal, aside from S vs. non-S, it's a no-brainer to go with the 2017 CS. Assuming it is a CPO car, it will actually have MORE warranty than the brand new car.
