Default 981 vs 718 clarity in fit

I'm 6'9" and have trouble fitting in a lot of cars. I went to a porsche dealer and fit OK in a 718... tight, but OK. I don't fit in older boxsters- in fact in the early 2000s I couldn't even GET IN them the cockpit is so small.

I'd rather have a 981, and I see a few for sale that are a couple hours away. Before I drove a number of hours just to find out I can't get in it... can anyone confirm how the 981 and 718 compare as far as interior? I've read up a lot and I believe they are about identical, and if i can fit in a 718 I'm fine in a 981...

Was hoping someone on here could clarify my understanding for sure.

Thanks!

Same chassis and interior for the 718 and 981.

Wow, man. I'm 6'4 and don't fit in a 987 for crap, but i can sit in a 981 and even clear a helmet. It is tight though with the helmet. I can't imagine 6'9 happening, but i'm glad it does! PDK will help so you don't have to deal with the clutch and smaller pedal box.

Especially if you drive long distance or track, be careful. I have a 981 and at 6'4 and thin athletic build , 36/34L pants and honestly I don't have quite enough leg room and my helmet rubs the ceiling at the track, and that's with seat all the way back and raked more than I would like to keep my butt & head lower as well as to support the leg bend. For leg room I sometimes worry I'll eventually have a mark on the console edge where my outer leg/knee rub. My car is a manual, 2014 with 14-way standard seats, fyi.

Maybe I have bad posture or something but can't believe you are comfortable at 6'9! If you sub the seat out for a race seat on the floor you'll likely have better head and leg room...

never said comfortable... haha. The problem is I'm not comfortable in anything really, except my F250 daily driver... The question is can I fit good enough... haha.

I used to race fieros, but I could only race fieros with a sunroof (while most racers avoided it) because that was essentially a pocket for my helmet...

Except the clutch and shifter are unfortunately the only reason I'm buying one.

Even my cayenne had a stick!

I'm half a foot shorter than you and can't imagine squeezing into a cayman at 6'9"! Going with a fixed bucket seat (no sliders) will give you additional head room and may be an inch or two for legs. I know it's a different car, but have you tried a 911? The 991 series seems pretty roomy compared to a cayman.

Edit: Buckets also come at a price of comfort and a PITA to enter/exit...

if fitment is a concern, be aware of the difference between 18 and 14 way seats. i'm not nearly as tall as you, and i don't know how wide you are but the 18 ways' bolsters were uncomfortable to me. the 14 way were much, much more nice to sit in. My 6'5 250 lb friend flat out couldn't fit in the 18 ways at all.

I test drove both gens before buying a 718. I'm 5'9" so I fit fine in both and both seemed identical in terms of interior space and layout. I find getting in and out to be a bit of a chore compared to normal cars, but being inside and driving is fine.

I like the 911s, just not looking to spend that much right now on a fun beater car! I thought about getting an older one, but if you kept the budget the same on a 981 and a 911, your looking at a 997 at best, not a 991. I think that for my needs I'd rather have a 981 > 997

At 6’1 230, long torso, I would love 1” more leg room in my 987.2 which the 981 more than provides—I have a large sledgehammer that has the adjacent, not socially distant engine bulkhead in its sights...

I'd recommend the 2way sport seats actually. No facts behind this statement, but based on my butt test, the 2 way sir lower than the 18 way.

I think the 911 is probably a better fit, my only thought would be to put in a planted racing set in a Cayman.
