Thoughts on P-Zero vs. alternatives
Hi All
As I took delivery in the winter, the dealer installed my winter wheels and tires. I had them dismount the factory P-Zeros from the other wheels so I have have the powder coated.
I have not had great experience with P-Zeros in the past, finding them loud, quick wearing and, most critically, poor in the rain. This is largely borne out in online reviews as well.
What are the collective thoughts of replacing them with Michelin, Continental or Bridgestone?

I sell tires for a living, so here's my experience: P-Zeros are OK for the street, especially the N-spec ones that seem to do better in the rain than the non-N-spec ones. However, they aren't as good as the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (MPS4S) on any comparable metric. The only customers I have who want to replace P-Zeros with P-Zeros are 911 guys that just cruise around and don't drive very hard. Everyone else prefers the MPS4S. Would I replace a brand new set of P-Zeros with MPS4S? Only if the money to do so was inconsequential to me, or I wanted to use those wheels and tires for wet autox or track day events.

I have a Cayman T PDK with the N1 PZ4 and a Cayman T manual with the 4S.
I believe the tires are virtually equal with the Pirelli being a little quieter on the street.
Remember N1.

My M760 came with P-Zero tires. They lasted about 6K miles. Just replaced them with Michelin 4S that I like a lot better.

The N spec tyres are different from the standard and are rarely if ever tested.
That said, the standard tyres of the top 3 or so brands differ less than 5% according to the multiple tests available at Tyre Reviews UK. (Sorry, can't link, site is currently down.) Be careful the graphs comparing tyres are often deceiving and emphasise differences that are really minimal.
Greg—long time Michelin user, currently on Pirelli 'cause the Michies aren't available for the 18" wheels.

Three Wheelin'
I'm really happy with the original 19" Yokahama N1s that came on my Boxster. Grippy, quiet, 12k miles and hardly worn.

I've had both the P-Zero and PS4S and far prefer the PS4S. I think the P-Zero is fine in hot, dry weather but just nowhere near as good as the PS4S in the wet.
I live in the UK where it rains 90% of the year so not a difficult decision for me ..

P Zero's are poor if you want performance. The Pilot Sport 4S is pretty much the goto tire if not looking for something like the A052 or RE71R for a DOT competition tire with a 200tw.

I can not believe how bad these are in even light rain for a modern road tire.
I will smokes these off in the summer and then switch to PS4S. Such a shame I got pzero

Sell the inferior P-Zero's and buy Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. They are MUCH better, all around.

I had two sets of the PZ N1 on my 981 Spyder, switched last summer to the 4S (also had the 4S on my GT3 Touring). On the GT3 they are remarkable good tires was very impressed including 5 track days (Spa, Nordschleife). Also tracked the Spyder in at the Factory track at Leipzig with both the PZ and than later the 4S. I like the PZ more on the Spyder than the 4S. The 4S needed more attention for the right temeprature window and pressure, the PZ was just more easy to handle, tire wear was more than OK. I guess I will switch back to the PZ's after the end of the 4S. I am just an average guy on the track, so others who push the car much more might habe other views. Also I had a chat with my contact at Manthey Racing as they service my cars, they have simular experience with the tires, he said just avoid the N0 PZ, that was a "bad" tire.
