Autocar UK has just reported the 4.0 but don’t say where they got it from.

IMHO it will be a huge price jump from the 981 Spyder.
The 991.1 GT3 based at $130,400 and jumped to $143,600 with the 991.2 GT3. Also factor in the price structure flip between the Boxster/Cayman. The 981 Spyder based at $82,100 and the GT4 at $84,600.
Based on the above we are looking at a six digit base! PTS will more than likely take a huge jump as well. The new GT3 is $12,830 for PTS.
It’s kinda a win, win situation for Porsche. Create a product with more performance and higher price, yet not pissing off your existing 981 Spyder owners as it will seem like a great value price wise. The 981 will seem like a bargain in comparison.
Same thing happened when the 981 Spyder launched... 987.2 Spyders value retained as it was a lower price.

If the 981.2 Spyder follows the GT3 price increase in conjunction with it being higher priced than the Cayman I foresee an MSRP around $92,000 give or take. That represents a 10% increase over the 981.1 Spyder which is about the same as the GT3.
Regardless I don’t think the new Spyder will have any affect on the older ones, especially if they change the cars characteristics dramatically. Each will have a certain attraction to the right buyer and considering how few have been made demand will outweigh supply.

IMHO GT Spyder and GT4... the GT4RS is nothing more than a pipe dream.

I have a feeling Autocar has some inside scoop. They seem to be right with the tire choice. The prototype with misleading GTS bumper (the Spyder will have the same front-end as GT4) is riding on Cup 2 tires with GT4 wheels. So, they may be right on the engine choice as well. The power is likely to be between 415 and 425. I personally don't care about the power; instead, I would rather have 8k RPM and lower gearing. Reduced cabin insulation sounds good. Would love to see as hardcore as they can get. I expect the pricing to be as attractive as how they priced 981. However, 4.0 could nudge it bit higher; yet, since that engine is highly modular, they may manage to keep it near C2S pricing, which is about $105k. Considering the package and driving experience, it will be billed as a "bargain"! Again! So far so good!

Doesn’t take much to get the info right... look at what Porsche did with 981 (shared front and rear with GT4), then look at the actual photos (you can actually read the sidewalls on a few of the pics.) As for the 4.0... that has been rumored for some time now... people were just in denial... had to be a 4 pot turbo simply because of the name 718. Ever notice there isn’t a single “Boxster and Cayman” label on the 981 Spyder or GT4? Same will go for the 718! They strategically planned this a while ago.

I can’t remember a time when Porsche used a different bumper on what looks like a final mule. I hope it’s not the case that the Spyder will use the GTS front bumper, it would be so sad to not have that aggressive Gt4 front spoiler!
I’m hoping I was initially wrong on thjs thread and it gets a NA 6-cyl..

I hear you... but IMHO these are not final mules. We have no idea how many m went undetected for the 981 Spyder... I only know the two... early cold weather test with standard roof and the last one in South Africa.

And, yes, the prototypes are far from being final. In fact, my guess is they are very early in the testing phase. We will continue to spot mules throughout the winter. I am expecting the launch to be at least 3-4 quarters away, for MY2019.

If they bring the Spyder with the 4.0 litre engine from the GT3, they need to be careful how to position it in comparison to the 991 Speedster which is rumoured to be presented at next week's LA Autoshow!

Speculation = the forming of a theory or conjecture without firm evidence.
Those who have been following the story know that NA is hardly "speculation" at this point as there is plenty of evidence out there that reasonable minds would consider "firm."
But hey, like I always say, nobody wants the next Spyder to be turbocharged more than I do. I can always use an instant $20K - $30K increase in the value of my 981 Spyder if it goes down in Porsche lore as the last NA Boxster, the last NA Porsche convertible, and the last NA non-GT car.
Bring on turbocharging --- PLEASE!!!!

I don't know that the sound clip, if that's what you're referring to, constitutes "firm evidence," but it looks like we might know something pretty soon. I'm still firmly of the belief the car will be NA, but as I have always said, I'm pulling for you turbo guys -- STRONG! If it turns out I have a big dish of crow to consume, I will accompany it with a bag of Dorritos and a Diet Dr. Pepper (as I don't have Eduardo's refined palette ).
