Huge News: DELAY in production on GT4/Spyder......
I texted the GM of my dealership today, where I had received one of the first Spyder allocations 2-3 months ago. He told me back then that the freeze on my order would go into effect Nov 5th, with production and subsequent delivery scheduled for late Feb.
He texted me today that Porsche has moved production back on both GT4's and Spyders, but he didn't provide a reason. He just told me that the freeze on the order is now pushed back to February, which means delivery would likely be May at the earliest.
He is leaving the country tomorrow, so I'm planning on speaking with him next week when he gets back.
NOTE: I'm referring to models for the U.S.only-- Not Europe

Going to cross my fingers and hope that the delay is so they can add the option of PDK to the cars from the get-go.

My guess.......
........it has to do with the particulate filters.
I bet the delay is b/c of hiccups with producing the U.S. version of the car without them. They've probably run into some issues.
A buddy of mine went online to look at 981 GT4 prices: the same ones that were under $100k 10 days ago, have gone up by approx $10k since then.
The dealers have known something since last week it appears.
And this tells me the delay may be much longer than a few months for U.S. cars.

I understand it's a painful wait for those itching to get their cars right away. But, if the delay helps us to get our version without the dreaded Particulate Filter, any delay should be welcome! Would be worth!

Porsche is motivated to sell cars, so I will count on them to make this delay as short as possible, while adding value to the cars.

I was told at my dealership that they had 1 GT4 allocation so far that just moved 4 months further out. I want a Spyder and they told me to plan on late summer or fall rather than spring.

Yeah, and they absolutely have to get rid of that plastic rear window. There is zero justification for that. I don’t think any manufacturer has used a plastic rear window in a convertible in this century. If anyone really cares about the 2 lbs that glass would add, then offer plastic as an option.
And this really makes me wonder what they are cooking up for the 718 line. It’s hard to imagine that they will not offer anything in the line for nearly a year.

one of the dealers i have a deposit down with in SoCal said their next allocations got pushed back from December to April. They didnt give me a reason why though. I have emailed another dealer to ask to see if I can get any more details.

My dealer told me the same last week. Main reason seems to be clearing US/Canada certifications...
They are probably re-routing production for other markets in the meantime (I would do this)
Sounds like history is repeating itself. 992 had similar delays for the same reason last summer I was told

I really hope this is a US certification issue.
Hoping it doesn't affect South Africa as we don't get the PPF garbage either so if it's related to that, I'm going to have to wait until the 3rd/4th quarter of 2020 😣
