Sounds pretty spot on for what the reviewers have said. Sounds like the last gen minus the raspy notes. Very much muted and likely due to the filter. In this form we are hearing, the old na 6s definitely sounded better with the proper OEM exhausts, but this is still a great sound, imo. I have a feeling some aftermarket work will be needed to let this engine sound their best, but definitely has the flat six magic in there. The question will be if its on par with the last generation or not.

The magic question is how much different will the USA/Canada versions sound without the Particulate filter? It could sound the same but most hope for better!

Has anyone verified wether or not the US cars have another type of restricter or whatever that emulates the clogging up the particulate filters do?

IOW even though a US car may not have the particulate filters, some have said they'll have something in the exhaust that has the same effect. If those EU filters reduced power in any way and the US didn't have them or something to emulate them, then the US cars could be more powerful and that doesn't seem like something they would ever allow.

The North American bound cars have a PF cannister in the same location, the difference is there is no precious metal coating inside to form an active system, I wonder if they are there to simulate the same backpressure as the cars in the EU have, see below.

This sounds better than most clips I've heard. You've likely all seen this one, but to me this so far is the best indication of where we are at with 718 Spyder sound. Unless the NA market unit comes with a significant sonic upgrade due to the particulate filter drop then as said in the video... there's no contest. And I am truly saddened as an individual with a 718 Spyder on order.

I've been to the track and watched enough Porsche racecars on track to know that the 981 GT4 sounds the part. Unless there's a miracle coming for the NA market units, I think it will take an aftermarket exhaust solution in addition to a carefully crafted aftermarket tune to get the 718 sound back to where the 981 left off.

Sounds better than previous recordings. However, definitely muted. They can't remove the filters in Euro models as the emission compliance would be impacted. Besides the Filters, the regs also have specific rule on noise limit. So, they got double-whammy! The US-spec cars will NOT have the filters; an inert device will take their places. Those devices apparently have no impact on emissions. There may be an impact to sound. My understanding is that the inert device can be removed; but, this assumption needs to be verified. Especially, compensating the back-pressure or whatever function the inert device provides. A Sport Header will definitely help. And, we don't have the noise-limit; so, that alone would help with the sound.

And, I love the fact that he is red-lining, as he should!! My kinda driving!

I'm guessing for NA cars you can remove the (inert) particulate filter however, because it is between the o2 sensors, you may get a CEL requiring a tune and/or you may void the factory warranty. It isn't like simply swapping a cat back. So yes, physically it can be done, whether anyone will choose to do so given potential warranty issues remains to be seen. The 9a1 in the 981 was already in a bunch of other cars before the GT4, this engine is new so I would think a lot harder before making any mods to the drivetrain that could impact the factory warranty.

In the comparision video above, it sounds like the valves actually close as revs go up, and open as they come down again. That would only make sense in a noise regulation context, but maybe that's the case...? Can anyone confirm?
