I've done a bit of reading on this since I was wondering the same. On the Cayenne forums it is well explained. It does not provide wireless charge. It just provides a better signal reception (via unknown process!).

So no go for me... never had any signal reception problem with my phone.

Too bad Porsche is not offering wireless charging (like Hyundai

Checkout 17:30 into this review where he shows that the phone compartment has inductive phone charging. The big question is if you need the $560 option to get this.

He says inductive phone charger probably because he assumed that's what it was, but he does not demonstrate the charging capabilities of the compartment. I really think it's the same option available on Cayenne and actual owners said it's not inductiive charger, just signal booster... Would be nice to get inductive charging. Can someone who got that option confirm?

Default Inductive charging

My smartphone compartment has both charging and a signal booster. You need the booster if you have thermal glass as it decreases signal strength.

I have the thermal glass in my Macan but I've never experienced signal problems.

The last thing I'd pay for is something that increases EMF. If anything a car like this should have a faraday cage option so no one bothers you while driving it anyway.

My SA advised against this option as it is meant to maintain your battery not charge it. ie. It'll stay at a similar charge rather than depleting or being charged to full.
Can anyone confirm that this is how it actually works?
Apparently they went to briefing where this was emphasized as many people expected it to work as a normal charger.

I plan on fitting a wireless powerbank and plugging it into the USB port so it's a removable wireless charger that's almost always at 100%.

It is a slow charger. It will charge the phone but much slower than if you plug into one of the usb c port's.

Sorry to revive an old thread but it's relative to our builds. Does anybody have a picture of what the compartment looks like without this option? I originally planned on getting this option but it seems that after further review, I may be wasting my money as it doesn't provide wireless charging and really only provide a signal booster, which is questionable in its effectiveness at this point. It looks like based on the video shows a usb-a connector. If you don't get this option, can someone clarify what connections are available in the compartment?

I spec'd it on my Spyder, which is a little more than a week away now... I will take a picture when it arrives.

Yes, a USB-A connection, no 12v outlet and it removes the AUX connection in the glove compartment as well.

Has anyone who actually ordered and picked up their Spyder with the Smartphone Compartment (SC) been able to confirm that this SC charges your cell phone, or just keeps it at same low level and slowly charges, and do you get a USB plug (or two) if you don't order the SC? Does SC actually boost the cell phone signal? Seems like an expensive $560 option, but is it worth it?

"Smartphone compartment in center console for optimized cellular reception and battery-saving operation. It is the customer’s responsibility to register with their wireless service provider prior to using the signal booster."
