Track driving impressions - 2021 GT4 PDK
Good Morning All,
I just wanted to give everyone my driving impressions as I did a DE at Sebring last weekend - First a little background - I raced PCA for 12 years - Instructed for 20 years - I raced a 968 Firehawk - and did De's with the 968, 2007 Cayman S, 2017 Shelby GT350, 2018 Boxster S and now the GT4. Prior to the DE - I did the soul OAP's (ceramic coated), Motul 660, alignment corner balance and was on RE71r's. I had -2.2 in front, -1.8 in back. My RE71's were my track tires for the boxster and i used them on the street on the GT4 while breaking in - yes I did the 2000 mile breakin - Obviously I was pretty careful - new car and all, and drove very conservative - about 6/7 10's for me - The car is fast acceleration wise - the boxster S pulled stronger out of the turns but the GT4 keeps pulling and on the front and back straight was a bit faster. I saw 8mph faster on the back straight over the boxster and 4 mph faster then the GT350. I was a little disappointed in the braking, as with the size of the brakes I expected braking superior to everything I had driven except my race car. Not sure if it is the pads or the fact the RE71's were maybe heat cycled out, but I have since ordered track pads and will do the next DE on the GT4 wheels with the Cup 2's. The PDK in sport mode is incredible with the downshifting a thing of beauty, I didn't notice much or hardly any difference in the 2 suspension modes and a DSC controller is next up. I also love the sound of the engine screaming to 8k but would like more sound when the valves are closed - Just ordered the Fabspeed competition exhaust - so that should take care of the sound and save 17 pounds My fastest lap was 5 seconds faster than the Boxster but 3.5 slower than the Shelby (the Shelby had a bit of mods). Considering I was kinda tip toeing around the turns ( incar video makes it seemed like I was stopping lol) the potential is obviously there to go a bit faster than the Shelby. I'll report back after the next DE to see how these few changes work !!!

Thanks for sharing your thought Lou, cool to hear what you said about various aspects of the car too!
I found it interesting that you felt the brakes were a little disappointing, but that you thought it might be pads or tires that were limiting the overall potential here, assuming of course that these are iron rotors?
Looking forward to hear some in depth about the DSC controller and the 2 suspension modes, over in the DSC Thanksgiving Sale thread some of us are having a hard time telling the modes apart and hoped the DSC controller would be of 'noticeable' value here...

I was there as well. Was my first time driving Sebring. What a great track. Can't wait to go back. Ton of GT4's there. I struggled a little with braking myself, and was braking for 7 at the bridge. In my case it was more me then the car, I was using Ferodo DS1.11 and castrol SRF. I have some 19" Forgelines showing up soon, I hope. The car is an absolute blast to track.
