Default 718 GT4 BMC Filter Install

I have a set of BMC air filters coming soon. All of the install videos I can find are for the 918 GT4. Is the install the same for the 918 and 718 GT4? If not has anybody found an install video for the 718 GT4?

the hardest part is removing the ECU and disconnecting the oil filler pipe, but the videos are pretty much the same ...

I'd recommend getting the sharkwerks filter pulling tool as it makes it easier to remove them ...

good to know...

I found getting the hidden bolt under the ECU a bit of a struggle to get off and back on again, and the oil filler tube removal was an absolute b**tard to disconnect!

Kind of a PIA just to change some air filters but it is my first mid-engined car.

Thanks to all for this information.

I cant agree more ... but its a fairly infrequent maintenance task... the YT! video(s) do a pretty good job of explaining the steps...

I bought the SharkWerks tool, very nice. I didn't feel it was necessary to save $40 on my $121,389 car....

I ordered this tool, after taking the car apart to change an air filter I will not be in the mood to dig the filter out.

The hardest part is getting those stupid black cones to stay in place while you replace the interior panels. Also, be careful of the BMC filter screw holes, they like to snap off if you try to drive the screws in too hard.

I had quite a tough time screwing the BMC filters back onto the OEM "mounts" since the screw holes are deeply recessed ... def need a magnetic screwdriver to get them started ...

that last bolt under the ECU (bottom right under the connectors) is also a challenge to get back on...

I have a pair of BMC sitting at my desk... I'm ok with all the hassle of the installation but cannot say the same about increasing the risk of engine damage because of inferior particle filter capacity...

YouTube Reference:
Note:

Having all said , I'm wondering from all those got this filter installed, can you report any difference in:
  1. Sound?
  2. Throttle Response?
  3. Better power delivery in conjunction with GPF/OPF deletion?
  4. Different drone/resonation profile?
  5. Other?

green color can be problematic particles

  1. Sound? better IMO - particularly induction...
  2. Throttle Response? no noticeable difference
  3. Better power delivery in conjunction with GPF/OPF deletion? nope
  4. Different drone/resonation profile? nope
  5. Other? nope

The fact that the induction sound is changed means that, in fact, more air is initially flowing in. Does anyone know if these engines have a Mass Air Flow Sensor? If so, then depending on the flow, the ECU will add fuel if it is programmed to allow this. This should lead to a better initial throttle response, but again, air temp, humidity, elevation, will all factor into how this is realized. In other applications, I have always found high flow filters to improve initial throttle response, but it is subtle. This included my B7 RS4 and e92 M3, both with high revving, NA motors. That said, those filters were very easy to change. I am not sure I want to deal with a PITA process for something like this.
