Default Let's Talk Track Tires - 2022 Edition

General 2022 track tire discussion.

My ongoing issue for the past several months is availability, so I'll open up with what I could get as of today for Goodyear Supercar 3 and 3R. Some of these sizes have been on 'backorder' since at least mid 2021. Checked with local Goodyear store and they have none of the sizes I want in stock. Called Goodyear corporate at 800 321 2136 today to see if I could get something more than is shown on Tire Rack and other vendors.

Results of the call to corporate:

SC3R:
285/35 19
245/35 19
305/30 19
265/35 19
'Backorder with no production date available'

SC3R:
275/35 18:
No info available.

SC3:
275/35 18
295/30 19
'Backorder with no production date available'

SC3
255/40 19
'In distribution centers'

Waiting a couple months as I've been told that they tend to produce these things sometime before April, but if things don't change in the next couple months, I'm going to have to look elsewhere for tires; the GT4's Cup 2 are starting to show some wear. Shame because I've been very impressed with the SC3R in hot weather and I'm trying to stay off the purple crack.

Seems like Good Year has specific problems with supply chain. I can get 305/30/19 for the rear right now but cannot find the 265/35 for the fronts anywhere.

I am thinking about Nankang AR-1 as a swap for the 3R tire, since those are available but need to check fitment first.

I see what you did there; nice standardization!

Have tire options changed since 2021?

We could combine and delete year reference?

I was thinking about whether or not it makes sense to start a new thread; tire options are evolving, seems one year is a little fast, but things will be very different in 3 or 4 years. Compared with 2021, RE71R isn't available anymore, prob at least couple new offerings now. Even if not officially in production, can't easily buy a lot of the stuff I could 12 mos ago, like in the OP. Maybe combine and make the old one 2021 & 2022 and expect a new thread in 2023?

I like new threads for new or updated topics. Sometimes good stuff gets buried. Anyway, I think I am going to try the new Continentals which are available in appropriate 19" sizes (265 front / 295 rear).

Should give the Falken RT660 a try. Good tire.

Purple crack is not that bad....don't try the Yellow Crack from Pirelli!

I don't like cup2s personally, so even rocks would be better. They overheat and get greasy as well as heat cycle out before the tread is gone.

My favorite 200ish TW after the RE71R is now the Goodyear supercar 3, but if I can't get those I'll try the Continentals or Falkens.

Supercar 3 gets my vote based on how long they seem to last me. I had 7 days (4 sessions/day 20ish min each) on my 20" set before getting my 19" track wheels. The 20s still have life left in them. I'm curious to see if I can get 10 days (40 sessions) out of my 19" supercar 3, running 245/285. 1300/set seems like a great deal if they last me 5 weekends.
My baseline was chunking PS4S after 2 weekends and cording the outer edge of AO52 after 1.5 weekends so I was looking for improved longevity. Short life also may have been due to lack of driver skill tho.

I've got 4,700 miles and 2 track days on my Dunlop Maxx Race 2's and they're on the wear bars. So 2,200 bucks for that kind of mileage isn't cheap, but dang, they stick and are really linear in grip. They didn't get greasy on the track either.

At $2,200 I'll go with the purple crack and a set of 19" wheels......
My track is not that far so wonder if I could just drive Cup2Rs and skip the whole wheel change at the track...of course if I do get rain that's a a problem.
The feedback from local GT3 drivers is they don't last that much but could give them a try.
So far the GY do have great feedback.....wonder if the RE71 replacement will ever make it to this side of the world.

Cup 2 R doesn't have front sizes in 19s, else I'd give them a try. I think I'm going to wait it out another 1.5 months for the SC3R or SC3, and if they don't get their production in order, will figure out next steps. Likely will be either a set of Cup2 on 19s, the new Contis, or Purple Crack. One of my criteria is a tire that'll work well on a hot track (ambient >90F), which is a situation where I believe the SC3R is better than many 'street' tires. The many positive reviews on the SC3 make me want a set for street.

Yes....the idea of trying them is on the OEM 20" wheels or if I decide to stick to 20" aftermarket wheels on the 4RS as it will require a whole brake system upgrade to run the 19". Really curious on the SC3R.

Tire prices noticeably higher than last year, with the gas price increases and part shortages tracking is going to be expensive AF this year
