Burmester in Spyder - not impressed!

Don’t you guys use the SD card? I’ve loaded all my apple music purchases and ripped CD’s on to the SD card. I used Bliss to get the album artwork and it works perfectly and sounds about as good as it can for digital music. Top down, I still find the Bose pumps pretty good. No complaints in terms of power, there’s just something muddy about it. Good enough though.

I'm wondering if the music source makes the difference between Bose and Burmester that most people talk about. I have a Boxster GTS with Bose and a friend has a Caymen GTS with Burmester. We listened to several songs streamed over YouTube Music via Bluetooth back to back in both cars. We both came to the same conclusion that the Burmester was only marginally better on some songs, but about equal on others. He said that he likes to listen to CDs, where he thinks the quality/clarity is better. We didn't compare CDs between the cars because I don't listen to CDs anymore. As far as I'm concerned, based off of the test we did using streamed music, Burmester would've been a waste of money for me. Maybe if I listened to CDs, that wold be different. I don't know...
99% of my listening in my Spyder is via Apple CarPlay, with Lossless audio tracks. It's noticeably better sounding than when I stream via BT.

I use a wireless CarPlay adapter instead of having it wired. I'll have to go back to wired and see how different the sound is. How do you get lossless tracks on your phone?

Apple Music supports ALAC.
I’ve also used the Vox player in the past but could not audibly tell the difference playing the same tracks back to back between Music and Vox.

If you’re an audio guy check out a Vanquish some time. The sound system is easily the best I’ve ever heard in any car and it’s not even close. Very different car but an awesome ride and the sound system is epic. I think the same sound system was also an $8k option in the Vantage, but not sure if there’s any differences. Both made by B&O

For the price pf the Burm I got an exhaust/linkpipes that sound absolutely symphonic. My feeling is why would I add any other “noise” to the cabin.

I have Bose in the 718 Spyder and the 992 GT3; they sound good, being cars with a lot of noise, open roof, etc. My wife's Macan has Bose too, and it sounds better, but we are talking of different cars, so it makes sense.
Btw I had a recall in the new Macan, and the dealer gave me a loaner; it was a brand new Cayenne with a base audio system....OMG.....I never heard something so bad, I had a 2016 GT4 2 with the base sound system, and it was far better (acceptable), but now it is so bad...I didn't expect that.

I took the considerable time to burn thousands of songs from my CD collection into iTunes, using ALAC (Apple Lossless, as another poster noted above), so I have CD-quality play when wired, and pretty close to that quality even via Bluetooth. MP3s just don't get it done.

CD is only 16/44khz, exact same data rate as when they were introduced in the 1980's. Amazon music streams quite a few albums in 24 bit as do other streaming services.

I'm in process of locking my spec on a ferrari Roma and if you think Porsche options are stupid, never even think about speccing a ferrari. Pricing is comical on some options.

I was going to tick the Burmeister option for the 4RS but my wife said that she never heard me turn on the stereo once whenever she was in my GT4. Sooo, off it went. I do listen to music in my 981CS, but something tells me I'll be listening to other music in the 4RS.

i present you with the definitive side-by-side Bose vs Burmester review: engine off, FLAC file on media, BB King Bad Case of Love with organ, horns, drums, bass and Lucille. I fiddled with all of the radio settings which may change the sound a bit, but not my conclusion. are you ready for my technical analysis?
Bose: sounds fine
Burmester: sounds a little better
Both can play the music rattle-free and loud enough to damage your hearing and gain the attention of neighbors walking by.
Both sound ok when driving on the freeway or ripping around town with the top down. Neither will please an audiophile (but audiophiles already know this!)
Both sound less-good when playing music from a sub-optimal source.
Neither sounds as good as the aged custom system in my 986 (which I primarily attribute to the proper amp and subwoofer)
Would I buy the Burmester again? I don’t plan to buy another sports car in my lifetime, so it’s an invalid question. But since I’ll have this car for a long time, I’m glad that I spec’d it with Burmester.
Disclaimer: I’m tone-deaf, know nothing about music, and my hearing is shot from 25 years in a convertible with the music turned up too damn loud.
Disclaimer 2: obviously I’ve added no new info to the knowledge base
