HELP!! I’M so torn: trade Manual GT4 for Gt4 RS
Hi All,
i am really torn and looking for guidance from folks who have experience with both of these cars. I have a manual gt4 with OAP’s (my first porsche); i absolutely love the car and have owned it for 2.5 years. I may have the opportunity to upgrade to a GT4 RS allocation (fingers crossed at MSRP). Assuming the above, should I go ahead with the trade?
I’m specifically torn on giving up the manual aspect of the GT4 for the PDK in the RS; no doubt the RS is probably well worth the price difference, but torn on the transmission (downgrade) and debating what has better long term value potential
alternatively, do i wait for an eventual gt3 manual allocation? How to folks compare that to a gt4RS?

There are a few factors that will likely influence the comments you get here—to your benefit. Offering some clarity on the following might help.
1. What is your planned use case? Do you plan on using it as a track toy or mostly as a street car?
2. “Fingers crossed at MSRP” is dangerous. Did the dealer give you a definitive answer on price—both for your trade in and a purchase price for the RS? If not set in stone, trading in a bird in the hand for a potential allocation is too risky. Need to get concrete on the deal before taking action as dealers have been known to reneg when a better opportunity comes around. Also, you might be getting MSRP, but 50k less than market value for your trade in.
3. What is your current opinion of the GT3? GT3 and GT4 RS are very different experiences—each with pros and cons. Depending on your use case and personal preferences, the benefits of each are amplified or irrelevant.

As others have reported, better check with the dealer on the guts of the contract.
992.1 GT3 are done; so you’d be waiting till .2s.
Lots of “should I” GT4RS posts existing to give you a feeling of past responses. Might be worth a read…

I think a lot of people have made the switch and are happy, I haven’t heard anyone regret it. That being said MSRP to MSRP is a min 60k delta, worth is a subjective term depending on your priorities.
id love a 4RS but lately I haven’t had much time to drive my GT4, so sinking more $$$ doesn’t make sense to me.

For car enthusiasts, there is a point in the automotive landscape when you truly start to experience highly diminishing returns. So here are a few things to consider:
1. Are you a serious track junkie who can afford the upkeep of a GT4 RS when put to serious track use? If so, get the GT4 RS. It is a better track weapon for sure.
2. Irrespective of the above statement, are you capable enough of a driver to be pushing your GT4 beyond its limits? If not, is the GT4 RS really worth the extra money?
3. Have you considered just adding another car to your stable? The GT4 to GT4RS move will likely cost about $100k out of pocket. You could literally add a BMW M3/M4 for that money and have another performance car that will also give a very different driving experience.
4. After time, you will want "more" than your GT4 RS also. That is just human nature. There is a point at which good enough needs to be good enough. I own a Spyder. If there had been a Spyder RS when I made my purchase, I likely would have chosen that option, but there wasn't. At this point, I don't really see a major change to my driving enjoyment to upgrade from the Spyder to the SRS. It becomes more about just owning it. I am nowhere close to being able to extract even my Spyder's max performance capabilities. I would rather take that $100k and remodel my Florida condo !!
All just food for thought. Good luck with your decision.

Plenty of people have justified keeping their Gt4. But I haven't seen anyone go from having a GT4rs, to then move to a Gt4....

I think it depends on what you value in terms of the right move for you
things to come to mind for me are:
track use or road car (GT4rs if lots of track)
how much does size matter to you? GT3 is noticeably larger than GT4rs
have you had a PDK/DCT car before and did you miss manual?
I know FOR ME, as I don't track my cars, I would go GT3 manual over GT4 rs, but it would be a 991.2 GT3 which is a smaller size
i went without a manual for a bit after having only had manuals for 20 years, the next time I drove a good manual, I literally got emotional and realized I need the connection I get with a manual
obviously the 4.0 in the GT4 RS and GT3 is the pinnacle of the porsche experience and I lust after it, but I would be willing to put up with the larger size of a GT3 (and I do think it looks better than a GT4rs) to keep the manual
best with the decision.

I wouldn’t even think about it. If someone offered me an RS as an even trade, I’d turn it down. With the rs, you get more power (totally useless unless you care about bragging at the track), a lot more noise, and an automatic transmission (sacrilege!). If your desires are mostly driver involvement and becoming “one with the car”, you can’t beat a manual GT4/Spyder. If your desires are Cars & Coffee attention, then it’s the RS.

I'd wait for the 911 S/T improvements to hopefully trickle down into the 992.2 GT3 Touring manual if there is one. Meanwhile this was a recent view of the 911 GT3 manual on track...

OP, i posted similar questions in “should i buy gt4rs”.
I would make sure if you get 4RS at MSRP🫡
If you can, it is a no brainer.
My dealer offered me 30K but low ball my trade in. All other dealers are at 35K

YouTube, car magazines, Forums, Cars and Coffee goers and the like will tell you: GT4 4RS > GT4
I'm not sure that truly applies, especially for a car driven on the road (not tracked) by a purist. You've got the last manual GT car from Porsche in your garage... I think that is more special than another PDK RS car...
I also do not trust this MSRP offer either. I was sitting supposedly #1 on a waiting list for an MSRP spyder for a long long time and nothing ever came of it...

To be clear I just have the lower gearing. I really like the smallness of the 718's and not having a roof is great up in the mountains. I get to spend a ton of time shifting with lower gears between 2-4, and I can push it harder since it's lower power. I think the only thing I miss on a mountain drive is the sound and mid range torque.
They offer different experiences. The 911.2 GT3's are amazing. I think the best thing available, but with current prices it's a no brainer to get a 718 imo. I also highly recommend spending the money for a re-gear. It completely transforms the car.
