Long winter nap is over!

What's this thing called winter? NH/FL resident. NH is not habitable until end of April for us. Boxster has to sleep a little while longer. Southeast FL is lovely for us after 40 years in the snowbelt. No Thanks to the white stuff.

Yes we sure do! We love our view and are very lucky. The past couple days we’ve been watching muskrats on the lake. They are industrious little creatures! We also have a variety of Heron, a Kingfisher, nesting Red Tail Hawks, Great Horned Owls, a variety of ducks including migrating ducks every spring and fall, and MANY turtles and deer! We’ve had turtles come in the yard to lay eggs. It’s a thrill to see them so close-up.
This afternoon…AGAIN:
^We’ve had a few more “white-outs” today. Fat snowflakes accumulate quickly on the deck.
^And then the sun comes out. If you don’t like the weather….just wait five minutes!
Here’s a turtle walking past a downstairs window. I was three feet away when I took this through the glass. It looks so prehistoric!
This past winter (while south) we watched turtles crowd every inch of a sunny shoreline. And then a Great Egret landed on one, and stood there on its back - just hangin out. I’d never seen a large bird land on a turtle and stand there.

^I assume the “anti-landing devices” on the rail are to discourage birds? We have some on top of our light post up by the street. Darn robins would land there and poop all over everything. We love birdwatching, but don’t necessarily want them pooping on the mailbox. Those plastic things are visually “quiet” and very effective.
Love the frogs & gators! Great photos and spectacular view!
We had frogs on the windows while south over the winter - but only at the end of our stay. It was cooler this year. Lots of days in the 50s and nights in the 30s/low 40s. In prior years we had LOTS of frogs - so cool to watch.
We had 3 “small” gators that we watched the last month. One was quite small - less than 2 feet. The other two were maybe 3.5 to 4 feet. The baby stayed well clear of the others. Fun to watch, especially from a safe place(through the window )
The last week we were there we rescued 5 frogs/toads (not sure which) and one tiny turtle from the pool. Used the skimmer to scoop them out. One frog/toad didn’t make it, but the others recovered and hopped away. The turtle was a little bigger than an Oreo. I wish they built pools with a “ramp” so the critters could crawl out.

^^Yup, idiot pool guy (who comes once a week when we're away for 6 months) didn't bother to tell us that egrets had taken over the pool deck. That was a pleasure to clean .
The view is ok.
