I have a 1987 S4 that sa part of my winter maintenance, I have also decided to replace the 14 pin connector, as the old was was cracked and two of the wires were pretty loose.

I received a replacement part and I can't quite get things to fit back right. I think the problem stems from the new part as it is definitely different proportions. I have included some pictures of the old and new parts.

The old 14 pin connector (male part) has different numbers than the new as well. Front part 9674/1 and the back part 23738/1.

The parts I have as replacements are 9694 for the front and 23738 for the back.
The front of the new piece is much deeper. Even with the pins pushed in all the way they only stick out a little bit. Also, the numbering on where the pins go (1-14) is reversed from how they go into the female part.

I am wondering if my 928 had the wrong parts on it to begin with, or am I trying to put two female connectors together?

Any ideas?

It's hard to tell from the pics but it looks like you are holding the cover to the 14 pin coinnector in your first and last pic. There is a thin cover that snaps in place to hold the wires into the plug. It is a PITA to install without damaging. If that first pic shows two covers, one deeper than the other, I would try to get the deeper of the two. The replacement that was sent to me was the thin one and it's a bear to get snapped in place. Mine was missing the cover when I got it so I'm not sure if the original was deep or not. It just seems like it would fit together easier if it were the deeper style.

FWIW when you fit the thicker of the wires to the connector housing you have to do a bit of trimming to the inside portion , this entails grinding down the wall of the connector pin guide so the thicker wire will be able to be pressed into the housing.

So, the parts have changed from the original design?

It is hard to tell from the pictures, but the first pic is the back of the connectors side by side, old and new. The newer one is the shallow back.

The other pics are of the front. The shallow broken piece is the old one and the deeper one with the pins in is the new one.

It looked as if I would have to trim to get it to work, but did not want to trim if it was not the correct piece or if trimming would cause problems. It is hard to untrim something once you have cut it.

Anyway, with the newer piece, do the pins protrude far enough to make good contact? Because they do not stick out as far even when fully seated.

What is the Porsche part number for the new connector housing? Did you find this part in the PET?

call Roger and see if he can get you correct part it looks like you have the wrong housing, the pins should come out as far as they did when you had them installed in the previous housing, the only portion that needs trimming is the wall of the divider where the fatter wire seats.

I really do need to check the PET. I have just been too lazy to find a version of PET and look it up.

The more I look at it, I really wonder if I have the female housing as the Pin #s 1-14 are the same as the bottom (female part) this makes them reversed on the top.

I'll look up the part # and see what I come up with.

The PET for the 944 has an electrical section with a large assortment of connector housings and terminals, many of which are used on the 928 and not shown in the 928 PET.

So, in many cases, you don't need to buy the whole harness if you just want to do a harness repair.

I supplied the 14 pin connector.
Male top is 911 612 113 05
Female bottom 911 612 115 02
Do you still have the bag with the part number on it.

That looks like the female for some reason.

Mystery solved. I still have the bag. It is for 911 612 115 02

So, we now know the 14 pin connector is not lesbian. It will not work with two females.

Anyway, no rush on sending the replacement. Just add it to the next shipment when you send the 32Ver.

Oh, and while you are at it can you also send a sealing washer for the drain block plugs. I somehow managed to lose one.

FWIW sometimes the block drain washers stick to the block or the plug

I recently replaced the male connector (parts from another vendor). The basic part and pins were correct but the wires would not fit under the new cover. Not even close. Fortuntaly my old cover was fine and I just reused it.

Does anyone know the part number for the pins for the 9674/1 connector? I’m fabricating an NLA harness for my 968 and I just need the pins.
