Default Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W50 Oil

I know a few of you guys are running this oil in your Turbos. I may try this oil sometime this summer.

Have any of you that are running this oil done any oil analysis (Blackstone for example) yet?

Are there any potential ill effects to our cats (due to the higher levels of Zinc and Phosphorus)? This oil is very-very similar to the discontinued "Extended Life" Mobil 1 15W50 (gold cap).

Use it.. It is a very good oil. The additive pack, is "what" we want to run in the air-cooled turbo engine. I have recommended this to several of my customers.

One mechanical engineer that I know of (993tt owner) was using Mobil1 gold 20W-50 for years, then switched to what he described as "best oil there is, terms of extreme temps range": Castrol Edge 10W-60.

As to "Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50", isn't this oil specifically developed for, used in Motorcycles!

No HTwo O: "Don't forget, Porsche did do an engine for Harley".

U are correct NoH2O. Porsche did do engine for them, yet cant see reason for using Motorcycle oil for Porsche vehicles.

Castrol's Edge 10w-60 covers and exceeds both the bottom 20 / top 50 range of Mobil1 oil.

I bet we're splitting hairs and any of them would be good. I have not been able to find any disciplined, objective studies comparing them....

Porsche didn't worry about the zinc and other additives when the cars were new. The additives were reduced from previous levels. There are better additives in the VTwin oil that will help the turbo air-cooled engine vs other oils that don't have them.. Put another way, the synthetic VTwin oil does a better job. 5w and 10w oils are to thin for the clearances that are run between the pistons and cylinders.

Well, I just completed my 3rd oil change in the past 11 months of ownership on my '97 Turbo. After each oil change, I did a Blackstone Used Oil Analysis.

First 2 oil changes were with Mobil 1 Ext. Perf. 15W50 (gold cap). My most recent oil change was with the Mobil 1 Twin V 20W50 as recommended by Kevin. Each interval was right at 5,100 miles.

The report with the Twin V showed excellent results, and I am very pleased with it and Kevin's recommendation. All my "wear metals" improved and my SUS Viscosity and cSt Viscosity looked great.

I will run another 5,000 miles with the fresh Mobil 1 Twin V and then plan to try the Motul 300V 15W50 (expensive...about $26.50 per 2 litre bottles) sometime early next summer.

You guys should try the Mobil 1 Twin V 20W50. Places like Autozone sell it for about $10/qt.
