Cool Race car pictures from Brumos Porsche

Sometimes Luck is a wonderful thing.

Went over to Brumos today to take a couple pictures of the race car which I figured would be on the showroom floor, which it was. As I walked in the door, what to my wondering eyes did appear but Hurley Haywood chatting about the car with Simon Gregg (son of racing legend Peter Gregg, owner of Brumos Porsche in the 60's and 70's).

Hurley was receptive to my butting in on their conversation for some pictures and sharing their conversation. Then I chatted with Simon Gregg for a while. Sadly, Simon drives a modified late model Corvette. But he did ask my opinion of the Panamera, so I gave him the hands-on sales tour of one on the showroom floor.

Here are the pictures I took. The guitar Hurley is holding is the trophy they won this past Saturday at the GrandAm 6hr at Watkins Glen race in which they placed First in GT. On the back of the guitar up in the neck where the tuning screws are (sorry, not a guitar guy, so I don't know what the technical terms are for that part) is a gold inscription stating the race, place, and date.

The letters RFS on the back of the race car are not a factory designation for the car. They do, of course, refer to Robert F. Snodgrass, previous owner of Brumos, and considered to also be a legend in the sport as an owner, events organizer, and vintage racer. The Watkins Glen Robert F. Snodgrass Award is named after him. Awesome that the Brumos Porsche return to its GT racing roots would get it first win at The Glen in a major endurance race. "Bob" Snodgrass was born and raised in Almira, NY, just a stones throw from The Glen.

Details are so important: Look at the Porsche crest on the hood. It is not a sticker...

a similar car was here last year for repairs and alignment before the 24 hrs of daytona...I got to sit in it and hear it run...

regarding the front clip, those are disposable...they toss them out pretty regularly...start of race it needs to look clean, who cares what it looks like across the finish line as long as it leading the pack!

nice pice thanks for sharing

Cool

Coincidentally, The 356 Registry magazine this month, and Panorama this month, both devoted substantial space to the history of Brumos Porsche. The articles complement each other nicely. And last month Excellence had an article about Peter Gregg's '73 RS street car that has been lovingly restored by an owner in Connecticut (IIRC).

By next week, the race car will be clean and shiney again in preparation for the next GrandAM race at Road America, Elkhart Lake in a couple weeks.

And Brumos will have several cars on display at Parade this year in Savannah. And the Parade committee has set up four days of bus tours from Savannah to Jacksonville to tour the dealership, race shop, and private museum. All four days sold out instantly.

A couple more pictures. I did not take these. They were photographed and posted by Brumos. The drivers for the Watkins Glen race were Leh Keen (left) and Andrew Davis (right).
