Anyone know where this thing is?

If yes, there are two possible issues. One is this relay which is cheap and easy to try. The other is the reverse light contacts in the shifter which is a total pain to get to, disassemble, clean the contacts and reinstall.
I am trying the relay first. ;-)

SUCCESS!!! My back up lights are now working.
You don't even need to buy a relay because there really isn't one there, it is just a junction point with a very small four pin bridge type jumper connecting the wire leads, see the photos below.
I slipped the two light gray wire lead holders from relay position #6 by pinching the two small black tabs on the side together.
Then just pry the one light gray holder you need to get to out of the clip that holds the two together.
Then you can see the small four pin jumper that connects the wire leads together. My car only had two wire leads there even though there is space for four. Your car probably has more for the Parktronic system.
Pry the little connecting bridge out with a small screw driver and clean it well. Mine had just the slightest tarnish on it but that was enough to stop the current.
I tested the current through the wires with a test light by having my wife start the car and putting it in reverse. I got a good positive flow on one and good ground with other. Just to check I put a piece of speaker wire connecting the two and the reverse lights came on. I then installed the cleaned bridge and the lights came on.
Problem solved!

And a super big thanks to jpflip for knowing where this stuff is.
The wiring on these cars is unbelievably complex.

Did you start the car and put it in reverse and check the current at the wire leads with a test light?. When I know that result I can then help you further.
If I were you I would check both bridge connections at that location.
