I’m replacing the CV boots today and I’m to the point of putting on the new clamps. The clamps I’m using (below) came in the kit from 928 Intl.

I’ve searched reenlist posts/U-tube to see how to tighten these with no luck. I’m hoping I don’t need a special tool to avoid a 2-week delivery. If it DOES take a special tool, is there an alternative with common tools? I can get them “snug” with hand-grip, but not as tight as I think they should be to keep them from popping off later and grease flying out. Once tight, is there something that should be bent or flared to keep them tight?

With cv boot clamp pliers like this. You can use diagonal cutting pliers also if your careful.

Guys - Thanks. Sooo no alternative other than getting special pliers--like maybe using a screwdriver, a hammer a pair of needle nose and a piece of rope and a special twisting motion? I'm sure there's some place like Autozone or PepBoys in this country, but in the month I've been here, I haven't seen it yet. Thanks again / Bruce

Based on a tip from my local wrench, I re-used the old clips - the flat type where one end goes through a slot, is pulled tight and bent back . You drill a hole(s) in the strip only big enough to get the nose of needle nose pliers into. Fit the clip in place, thread the end through the slot, pull tight by using the newly drilled holes and your needle nose pliers, and then bend the end down and secure.

^^^^ I don't know a good one from a bad one(?) Quite a few on-line sites of people only using zip-ties. I just want to make sure it holds. The thought of doing this job again if that grease flies out would just be too painful...

If you can't find an auto parts store that loans the proper tool, you might try a ceramic tile place that loans tools. Tile nippers are what you'd want from there. Something like these:

Gear/screw clamps are a balance problem, so the ones with the smallest out-of-balance problem get the nod. The tool is cheap, and you can cheat with the right cable kippers dulled with a grinder. In the end they meet the service need pretty darn well.

Those "crappy clamps" are the perfest clamps for the job and the horse shoe nail pulling pliers, as shown, are the perfect tool to set them with. Hooray for 928 International.
