Default Engine bay light 1987 911

Hello All: My 1987 Carrera 911 has a light fixture on the underside of the engine bay deck. The bulb is a bullet type- appears to be labeled 12866 Phillips bulb. Hard to read with old eyes. It does not work when the engine bay deck is opened. The bulb tests OK. Question is: how is this light supposed to work? Does raising the engine bay deck lid activate the light or is something else required? Does ignition have to be on or whatever ? Thanks. Stay well and safe.

You got it man.
Given you have an 87...you can find the online version of the manual here:

I have an 86, but I reference this 87 one quite frequently.
