Default Question about case and crank combination.

I am curious what crankshafts I can use if I am building a motor using a 3.2 case. It will go into an 1982 911sc. I am starting from scratch and have a good 3.2 case. No crank or rods yet. Was looking to do a 3.0 short stroke but am confused on which crank will work and which ones will not. I currently have an option to buy a good crank part#916.102.016.00 but am not sure if it would work for my application. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

In a nutshell the Metzger engines can be divided into two camps by which crankshaft will fit their cases:

Magnesium & early aluminium
2.0, 2.2, 2.4, 2.7, 3.0 Carrera & 3.0 Turbo is the early set.
The longest stoke is 70.4mm from the 2.7RS and 3.0 Carrera crank.

Late aluminium
3.0SC, 3.2 Carrera, 3.3 Turbo, 964 3.6, 965 3.3 & 3.6 Turbo, 993 3.6 & 3.8, 993 Turbo, 996GT3 & Turbo, 997GT3 & Gen1 Turbo and 997GT3RS 4.0 litre.
From this range you can use 70.4mm (SC), 74.4mm (3.2 & 3.3 Turbo), 76.4mm (964 & 993 3.6 Turbo) and 80.4mm (GT3RS 4.0)

The 916 crank is from a 2.7 & 2.7RS hence will not fit the SC engine. Hope this helps.
