Question From H4 to LED headlights?

Hello, I'd like to brighten up my headlights without replacing the entire head. Mine are in excellent condition so I'd like to change just the bulb with an LED one.
I saw some YouTube videos and seems super easy.
is there a brand you recommend?
do they have to have the three prongs and some dimensions or can I use a model with a small fan like the Phillips Ultinon?

I'm pretty sure that Porsche just started selling LED replacement for H4s. They look identical to the Philips Ultinon so I assume they are just a rebranded version of those.

Anyhow, I know of lots of folks who have gone with the Philips and love them. I did it on my 964 and they work great.

Here's the Porsche version for reference - https://www.design911shop.com/p/bulb...he-pcg631134h/

The US 911 did NOT come with H4 reflectors. it would have had "sugar scoops" with 7" round DOT approved sealed beams, so these would not be a direct fit if you still have the original headlights in your SC.
You can get 7" Round H4 housings to replace your sealed beams for a very reasonable cost. This will retain the original look of your car but allow you to run the H4 LED replacements bulbs as referenced above. the other option is to upgrade your entire light assembly to the Euro 911 H4 assemblies, which is a considerably more expensive project, and will change the look of your car to the Euro headlight look.

I think Sugar-scoops started in 1983 not 1982 no?

either way I know what i have and i have Bosch H4

maybe the previous owner already changed them in the past.

You may be right on the start date of the Sugar scoops.

Regardless, if you have H4s on a US spec car they have been changed in the past, and you are good to go with the LED bulb replacement.

Hey - my ‘82 has sugar scoops.

agree, if you have h4 conversion, no worries on led bulb swap.

i have an extra set of Rennline LED headlight units, if interested.

kinda thinking ill swap back to sugar scoop H4 or the sealed units with sugar scoop look.

Sugar scoops have been around since at least 72, maybe earlier since only sealed beams were legal for DOT

Has anyone tried these official Porsche led replacements for the H4 housing? Porsche LEDs Seems like the best solution.

Related question...if going from H5 to H4, do I need to get new trim piece or can I reuse my bodycolor trim?
Trying to avoid having to get new trim pieces painted.

H5 trim rings will not fit H4, so yes new rings are needed.

You will also need an adapter plug, or change the harness connector. The H4 and H5 used different style electrical plugs.
