Default How does Magnus Walker get this sound out of the 277?

The thing sounds perfect. My 3.0 SC with SSIs and an M&K exhaust sounds nothing like this. The sound in between shifts, for instance (throttle off), has so much of what sounds like induction and mechanical noise.

Is it because it's carbs? Like what is it that is giving it that sound? Everything I've seen about the car suggests that it has been through a few motors, including a 2.6 twin plug with what looks to be carbs. So it doesn't seem as though it's some ridiculous engine build.

I want that noise.

Factory type sport exhaust will sound like that, he has a remote mike that exaggerates the sound too.

I mean, as I say, even with headers and a sport exhaust on mine, it sounds nothing like the 277. I know it's a little exaggerated with the mic, but still

I think the carbs make a huge difference with the sound. My 2.7 on M&K & Webers sounds fantastic and gets comments all the time.

Yeah I remember hearing in the past that carb cars sounded amazing. Everyone I talk to suggests going EFI if converting away from the CIS though.

Maybe it's the ITBs that are contributing to it as well. Wish there was a clear recipe for that noise

There are so many variables. I've heard a 2.7 on carbs that I loved and then I hear a 3.0 twin plug on MFI that's amazing...... seems there is a number of ways to get there. I've yet to hear a EFI car I was in love with........ I am only talking about sound.... nothing more.

Yeah the thought it might be MFI occurred to me at one point. I was hoping it wasn’t that, since I’m never going down that route.

That sound is just intoxicating. Like my SC makes a great noise in its own right, but nothing remotely like that.

Maybe down the line if I go to ITBs, carbs or EFI, I’ll get a little closer. I hear that if you modify the CIS air box by opening it up, you get more induction noise, but I’m not really willing to do that since it rains a lot here in FL and you never know when you might hit some, despite your best intentions.

Sounds good, to be sure! But my SC with CIS and SSIs into a Dansk Sport 1-out sounds verrrry good! I'm not at all jealous of Magnus' tone. Of his cars, yes; but his tone, not so much.

They're likely using an external mic for the exhaust, so the off-throttle sound is going to sound exaggerated versus what you hear while driving. My buddy uses one when he takes videos for BaT auctions and almost all 911s, even tame ones, sound similar with the mic properly hooked up.

My 2.7 with SSI, M&K 2-1, and Clewett ITB/EFI sounds almost identical to that for what it's worth.
