Default Compression / Leak Down Test

What would be an estimate on the length of time (labor hours) that this would take on a 1980 SC?

Thanks.

No more that 2 hours, but you just never know what shops are going to charge these days.
Best bet is to call around, but if they charge any where from 1-3 hours they are in the ball park.. but if their labour rates are 150 an hour, that is still a pretty pricey project.

If they are doing it as part of a PPI where they are checking the studs they should only be adding on an hour as everything is off for access anyway .

agreed. no more than 2 hours if it's all they are doing. its really not much more work than a plug swap.

when it comes to stuff like this i price out the parts to do it myself, even a couple hours at a Porsche specialty shop and you could probably buy a small compressor and a leak down kit ant harbour freight.

that's how i ended up with all my tools .. lol.

Reason for asking the question - a guy in the local PCA chapter here was quoted $2k to do the work (?!) So either the person that gave him the quote either does not know how to do the job or is looking to whack him.

(I think it's the whack job scenario...)

Someone should go and give that guy who gave the local PCA boy a good kick in the butt …
If you figure 100-150 dollars an hour that a real shop would charge , it would come to 15 to 20 hours to do a leak down and compression check ?
Yeah , i would kick him twice !

Cheers
Phil

I paid around $400 for that last year. You need someone with a real shop compressor less than 80PSI won't cut it 100PS is ideal.
2k would be full service, valve adjustment, oil change leak down test. My shop does the test before any major service,
