I used to run VR1 , its a good oil ,, and was very reasonably priced, then it just became unavailable for some reason and i moved on. I used to get all kinds of sales at auto stores and clean them out. I remember once it was on for 1$ for 1 litre and had so much . lol ..
now i just run brad Penn.. really just because i know it and can trust it, no other reason really. everyone is going to have their favourites based on their own experiences. .

I used to use VR1 in the eighties when i had an RX7 which relied heavily on oil lubrication, but as we all know the oil debate is something that has been discussed on multiple forums and is like salad dressing, everybody has their preference and their reasons.
My personal choice is Amsoil Dominator 15w50 , mainly because my SP2 car holds 8 liters with the huge Lindsey Racing oil cooler and my 89 911 with a 3.6 and large Patrick Motorsports front cooler which holds pretty much the same amount , gets rather expensive in yearly oil changes …
I get a nice discount as a preferred customer with Amsoil and my race engine in the SP2 car seems to like it.I’m sure the most recent Valvoline oil is a good product as the brand sponsors Nascar and even Aston Martin in F1, yeah it’s not your off the shelf product but it’s been around for ages !
We all have our reasons , just like we only use Pennzoil Platinum Ultra in my son’s WRX, just use what works for you …
Cheers

Clive , just like you mentioned VR1 became unavailable in Quebec for many years so i moved on to something else, i guess it’s like beer !
I grew up drinking Labatt 50 , then switched to Budweiser, as i got older Coors Light , and now if i plan to drink less than six it’s Rickard’s Red … lol
Oh well , flavour of the day !
Cheers

Had a friend tell me she had rediscovered Molson Canadian. Which made me want to go out and get some myself for old times sake, but around here it is only 12-packs now.
Only oil I stay away from is Castrol. Bruce A and Alan Caldwell used to blame it for cam lobe wear, if you could pin them down. Maybe one of the first oils to drop ZDDP? Dunno. I’m sure it is a totally different product now 30+ years later, but I still won’t use it.
I mostly buy Valvoline or Mobil 1 synthetic for the dailies, whichever I can get on sale.

I think Castrol came out with some new formulation with a lot of zinc , somebody posted it either here or on Pelican not that long ago.
We use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum for all our daily drivers, it usually goes on sale once a month for $35 canadian for a 5L jug … which suits me fine !
I only used Castrol GTX on my earlier F150’s and i never had issues , but now with the synthetic requirements it’s better to use a good oil.

I used to run this in my 911 before I rebuilt the engine with gt3/modern bearings and clearances. Found it to burn less and drip (LOL) less than other options.
Used them all... though I'm using synthetics in all my cars now (except 901 transmission gets swepco). M1 1550 for 964, Motul 300v for 911 hot rod, motul 300v for RS

ive looked at that product and it is crazy expensive... but maybe just for Canada ?
