Question Dansk Muffler Comparison

I've been considering installing some sort of sport exhaust system that will 1) improve power & throttle response (I'm not expecting a huge improvement), 2) provides a more sporty exhaust tone, and 3) looks relatively stock in appearance. In researching options, I've come across two Dansk products:

Part# 92-201S Stainless steel muffler (with single smaller tip - 60mm?)
Part# 92-502S Stainless steel muffler w/ single 84mm tip

The tip on 92-201-S seems to have a more stock appearance than the 84mm tip (which I feel is a bit too big and bulky looking), but I'm not sure of its sound/performance improvements vs. stock and vs. the 84mm version.

My question is this: will 92-201S do anything from a performance and sound standpoint over my stock configuration? Or is the 84mm version the way to go for these attributes?

Thanks
PC

I've got the Dansk muffler with two exhaust tips and it sounds great, but loud. Dansk mufflers tend to have a metallic quality to them, which I like. I can't speak for performance gains since I also had SSI heat exchangers put on and the cats removed. This combination has been stated to result in a 20 hp gain and it is a significant weight savings.

I have heard the Dansk and I agree with Eric... It sounds metallic.
I tend to lean more towards the Fabspeed sound and looks.
Do a search on Pelicanparts, there are a couple of choices on
mufflers that are popular for the 3.2

If you're a member of the Pelican board, send a message to Danskman there. He's a rep for the company, and can answer all of your questions.

PC,

I have the Dansk euro pre-muffler and the Dansk stainless muffler with the single 84mm outlet on my '84 Carrera. This muffler is a "sport" muffler in that it has less baffling and makes a little more noise. The increased noise is not bad and it is within the noise restrictions at Lime Rock. I also have a custom Steve Wong chip.

The above combination does produce noticeable performance improvements over the stock (cat & muffler) configuration and stock chip. Do a "search" on Pelican and there is a lot of information on the Dansk set-up. I opted for the single 84mm outlet sport muffler because I wanted a little more performance and I did not want to modify my lower rear valance for a dual outlet muffler. Additionally, I do not have emissions testing to worry about.

Regards, Bruce

PC;

IMHO, you really ought to consider the Monty mufflers. These are all SS and outperform the Danske ones. (I think they sound better, as well)

These are available in single and dual 3" outlet versions for the Carrera.

Steve always has the best advice. But since I'm cheap and poor I got this muffler from mb911 on pelican. Very nice and sounds sweet I think it was about $300

Scott:

LOL,..You get what you pay for,....

In this example, there are many things about mufflers that you cannot see without a borescope & an engine dyno,...

I went thru listening to installed mufflers at DE's + for years. I isolated it down to Dansk &/or Monty. Neither of my choices really turned me on till it registered that stock FI cams are a little bit audio boring without cam overlap. Once that fact registered in my little grey fuel burner I had a "Wow" insight.

"I bet Monty would be perfect."

I would compare my exhaust, SSI & Monty, + E-cams to the Berlin Philharmonic.

At steady 70mph with roof open and windows closed is 90db with 2 75mm out..
db was same for stock '77 CIS cam and E-cams.
that means 2 males with full voice can communicate easily.. a low voice female would have to almost shout. all this is hard info.

Some guy named Steve at Rennsport Systems on the west coast can supply the Monty.. He's a class act imo.

all above is a prejudical rant.

Steve: I'm just a DIY weekend wrencher, but $800+ for a muffler seems high to me. The MB911 mufflers from the Pelican board have been getting rave-reviews from those that have bought them. For approximately $300, that's probably the way I'll go when I replace my muffler.

They have been getting great reviews - there is no dyno info yet, and they are apparently fairly loud. THey are light wt., about the same as the Monty. Steve, do you have any info on them?

You could try Ben's (mb911) for $300, and if you don't like it, resell it and get a Monty. I have a Monty and am not inclined to switch...
