Fuel Pump Noise
Greetings,
I'm getting a buzzing sound beneath the area of the fuel tank of my '80 SC, which at first I assumed was the fuel pump. But when I shut off the engine and turned the key back to the ON position (without the engine running) I heard nothing--the buzzing was not there.
Doesn't the fuel pump turn on with the ignition "ON", and wouldn't it make the same noise??

Sebastian: The buzz is your fuel pump - the pump is NOT supposed to run with only the ignition. It won't start up until the engine cranks - safety issue. If your pump is really loud one or both of its rubber mounts may have failed, and the pump is lying on the protective plate below it, OR the pump might be failing.

mine started making noise about 5k mi from very low psi which caused the engine to seem like it was running on 3 cyl. The fun part was that I was on I-10 in NM on a Fri.
now I carry a spare on my rides.

hello,
your buzzing sound come from your fuel pump. 2causes:
1. your pump is tired
2.your fuel accumulatorwho regulate the pressure is tired.
first, do you have already change your fuel filter?
