Okay, if you are interested in ZDDP check out http://specialtyformulations.netfirm...products_id=37

i have used this in some older farm equipment. made by Specialty Formulations, they have a broad range of lubes. very responsive and knowledgable.

Wow, this is like the meeting of the minds ...Steve W., Pete Z., and Mike H. collide in ...the Perfect Storm of Experience!!! Much of the info I've derived re oil is from Mike's detailed, informative, exhaustive, and disinterested research/findings; his is, indeed, an amazing resource and real asset to the Porsche community. Thanks, Steve, for sharing.

Pete,
You sure are doing a lot of homework for a guy that's "done" with professional wrenching
Maybe on my next oil change for the Trackmeister (an SC with 15K on a full rebuild, main bearings to head, but orig p/c's) I just may move away from the Kendall GT1 and go to Mobil1 as I don't really feel like sourcing out the Penn stuff. But like so many other times, my Thanks to you!

Edward

I thought I would follow up on this old thread.

I tore the engine apart. Only problems I found was bad intermediate shaft bearings were worn and the oil pump did not 'feel' right and one cylinder was out of spec. I rebuilt the engine. Now, after several DE's, in the summer and fall, the highest oil temp I get is 210 degrees. No problem with air flow and haven't removed the headlight to get more air to the front cooler. Nothing.

Go figure.

Woiuld you mind sahring how much did it cost for your rebuild and what did it include ? this will give us a rough idea of where we are today wih our cars .. Did you ever deduce what caused the oil temp issues ? the things you mentioned I would not think have cause it . Maybe if the oil pump were weak i guess..

One thing I did not mention was a cam lobe was worn.

Cost of OH. I don't want to think about it. But some things come to mind.

P & C 3K
Head work (done twice). First time was 1050, second time 850
Cam grind I forget
Gasket sets (twice) 400
Lots of parts (over did it) maybe 2.5K
New valves, gides, chain, one tensioner, cam gears, bearings (costly), used carrera oil pump 250, balance couple of hundred.
