jrod,

Seriously, a nice looking 911SC with Ruf rims priced at $5900 is very odd. You need to check everything out fully before parting with your $5900.

Buyer beware. There are plenty of scams out there.

The front valance looks correct for pre '84 911's. Fog lights were not recessed for sc's or early turbos. How many miles are on the car now? (motor was rebuilt 12 years ago at 150,000 miles)? How about RUST? I like the front bumper detail with the headlight washers... seems most folks who convert to turbo look overlook something like that...How's the interior?)

Heck, even at 5,900 with an electrical problem you could part it out and make money on the deal!

re: transport: I used Specialty Auto Transport for my M5 from california to texas--about $1300.00 enclosed trailer, got it about 7 days after I called them, which was unusually fast. Go to: http://www.transportreviews.com/ to see reviews on all the transporters. Specialty lived up to its reputation and you can get really burned by the other guys.

And if the car is in CA, seems like there are about 10,000 rennlisters/pelicans who'd love to look at the car for you--only make sure they don't scoop you on it!

Yea guys I think something is wrong with this deal. The guy wanted to wire transfer some money. than when i told him that i would flight out there on saturday, he kind of changed his voice tone. I also told him to email me some interior & engine pics, he said he didn't have a digital camera, it would take him like 2 days fot him to email them to me. (this was last night) So just right now i call him and soon as i told him who i was, he said " we sold the car last night" if the guy doesnt come throught with the rest of the money i will call you.

jrod,

Feel free to let me know if you need any local help. I'll help if I can!

I think it's very wise to just walk away from this car and this deal... As soon as you mentioned 'wire transfer', it wreaks of scam...

I looked at the pics again...

If that license plate frame says "Lake Country Motor Sports" and this car is indeed from that place, then I have some info for you.

There is a temporary tag (license plate) on the car as well. Wisconsin allows you to temporarily license a newly purchased car for 90 days and gives you a temporary tag such as the one displayed on the back of this car. Temp tags expire after 90 days of filing paperwork and are non renewable. You must pass emissions testing (which includes a visual inspection of the exhaust, pressure testing of the gas cap, and the car goes on a dyno for a simulated road test) on any car newer than 1968 before you are given a registration and permanent Wisconsin plates.

I personally would not buy an older car (much less a Porsche) that has Wisconsin temp tags on it unless the person can show me a valid emissions test showing the car has passed and also provide a darn good reason for filing all the paperwork (and paying the fees) for temp tags and then selling the car within 90 days... But that's just lil' ol' conservative me.

Since this car is in Wisconsin, those pics (seem to be scans from photo paper pictures) are most likely from a fall time period. Right now, Wisconsin is about as green as it gets. Those fields look pretty brown and there are no leaves on the trees. Very typical of October or November. Not summer.

However, one never knows the full story and we've not heard the seller's point of view on this car. All could be very legit. Again, looking at the whole picture of this deal, things just don't seem right.
