Default 1978 911SC opinion?

what do you guys think about this: I found someone that has a 1978 911SC for $5,900. here are some images on the paperwork, he said the engine was rebuilt, i did see the dates and it was done several years ago, he said the only thing is wrong with it is the electrical. he has to disconnect the battery at times cause it will loose charge.

i have the pictures in this link.

Obviously the price you posted is a misprint - the wheels and Armor All are worth $5900!

I'm afraid you simply can't Carfax a car that old. Considering that Carfax relies on databases, you probaly wouldn't find much anyway...there weren't a lot of databases back then!

I'm curious about the price too...if electricals are the only issue on this car, it appears to be a steal at $5900!

Peter is right. If those are real RUF wheels (shame they are polished) they would go for about $2K - $2.5K on ebay. My guess is he is asking $15,900

paperwork says SC, body says Turbo.
front valence says SC, 3rd brake light says Carrera.
lots to be revealed here - caveat emptor.

I believe it was model year 1981 when the 17 digit VIN became a world standard. Previous models can't go into car fax and like Doug says above, even if it did have a car fax available, you'd only get the past 10 years or so (maybe) of emission check records or other minor stuff since there were no databases for VIN numbers way back in the '80's that Car Fax will pull from.

I too agree this is an ad typo and probably is a $15,900 asking price car.

Either stolen, no title or the number is wrong. Start adding it up. The wheels and tires alone were $4700. The engine rebuilt was over $8K. The car was converted to a Turbo body and a nice repaint. Even from the pics you can tell the door trim, window seals and window trim are in excellent condition. The rear wing is probably from a factory 86' 930 (note the 3rd brake light). it has some other rare options: rear wiper and headlight washers. The only way you can even tell it is an S/C is from the front lower valence and spoiler.

what's that line about "being good to believe"? there's got to be something fishy. might want to quaddouble check the vin numbers on the title and vehicle.

If this car's motor even turns over by hand, it's the deal of the decade. IF the deal is legit.

Wow. This is fishy.

I've used Intercity Lines for transporting a 911 and it was a flawless, least expensive and quick transfer of my car.
