How do I Separate a 915 tranny from a 3.0L?
My first post - I am a 912 / 914 person who wants to help a friend out in separating a 915 tranny from a 3.0L motor (1982). The motor and trans are out of the car - I have not seen it yet. Helping him tonight or this weekend,
He stated that according to the shop manual, you need to rotate the throw out bearing 90 degrees - it does not seem to work.
Does anyone have a procedure to do this or a link I could look at? I tried to search a few boards - but did not come up with anything definitive.
Thanks,
Frank

Frank: The clutch cable arm/omega spring assembly under the bell housing must be removed (that should have been done with the engine in the car - it's a bear to get to on the floor). With the arm off the T.O. fork can rotate as you pull the trans away from the engine. The turn the TOB instruction applies to 2.2 liter cars only...

Hi Pete,
Thanks!
I will have access to an engine hoist to access the clutch cable arm and omega spring assembly. I phoned the owner and he did not remove them prior to pulling the motor/tranny.
So there is pressure applied to the TO fork (release fork) withe the omega spring assembly in place. Once removed - no pressure and the tranny can be pulled away.
Correct?
Thanks!
