Porsche 7" & 8" x 14" Fuchs question.
I recently purchased an 84 911 and have 15" 6" & 7" fuchs on the car. The original 7" & 8" x 14" came with the car as well. I like the deeper rims therefore considering putting the 14" on the car. In regards to performance can you guy's give me some feedback. Would I see a slight increase in performance. Due to the smaller diameter (higher RPM & less drag) as well as lowering the car slightly.
Thank you,
JM

Three Wheelin'
Well ideally you should get tires that have the same overall diameter as stock so as to keep your speedo and odometer reading correctly.
I would hazard to guess that you might see a decrease in performance primarily because there are not as many performance tires available in 14" sizes.

Here is a cool wheel/tire size calculator. It will help you figure out what you will be doing to your speedometer.

Check your wheels again. 14" wheels were last used a decade before your car was made. I think you will find the wheels on the car are 16", and the original wheels that came with it are 15".

I have 7 & 8 x 15s on my 84. They are original to the car. Ordered that way according to the option codes under the hood.
Not too sure they ever made 7 & 8" x 14" Fuchs; at least I've never seen any wider than 5.5 or 6".

Burning Brakes
My '77 came with the "Comfort Package" that included 14" Fuchs. I found some very good performance Bridgestones that fit, but selection was limited.
However, when I went to larger wheels and tires I noticed significant peformance reduction came with the increased diameters. With the smaller diameter tires my 2.7 CIS is able to acelerate like most 3.2 cars, and walk away from nearly anything in the sub-70 MPH twisties.
After trying several sets and sizes I have found 16" Fuchs with very low (40s) profile tires to perform the best with my setup. My car sits so low that my frame protectors and tailpipe sometimes scrape inclines, but the tradeoff is okay with me.

I need to check the rims again but almost 100% sure they are 14". I just put the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position tire on my 84. I am very pleased with the performance and ride quality! I had 14" rims on my 70 911T and remember it feeling as quick as my 69 911S. The top end was not as fast though.

Porsche only made 5.5x14's as the comfort option for '69-'76 cars. It was standard on the 911E and only found on the 912E after that.
If they REALLY are 7x14 & 8X14, they have been widened, after the fact.

In 1976 the 912E had available the Fuchs 5.5x14; the 1977 911S (USA) had available the cookie cutters or the Fuchs in 6x15. By the 1984 year they could be ordered with either 15 inch or 16 inch Fuchs.
