Dull means the surface is as rough as a mountain range reflecting light all over. Remove the peaks and the surface turns satin.

shooting clear on them creates a new surface but the surface is vulnerable to road stone chips

For those who have put a high polish on their lips, did you clear over them? I know I can leave it bare but that requires more maintenance.
I am worried if I polish the lips too much the clear may not stick. So it may be better just to scuff them well and go for a duller brushed look although I would prefer the polished.

My plan was to scuff my non-flaking centers, polish the lips well. Then paint the centers black. Finish by clearing over the entire wheel with several layers.

After you polish, clean with laquer thinner, or a similar solvent. The clear will stick well.

Default new FUCHS

Avoid the whole refinish issue, just get new ones from Porsche> I did, santa came early. Get them from Sunset porsche, save sales tax and get a good price.

Soon I will have 4 new 7/8 x 16 Fuchs on my 87 911 and bbs rs 3 piece wheels for sale.

Or, one can get a set of 17" forged repros which is one better than 16" NOS, IMO.

This thread has me thinking about refinishing my fuchs as well. Yet another winter project to go with repainting the rest of the car, some soundproofing and a few other odds and ends.

Thanks to all the great comments that have already been made in this thread I think I can handle the painting part. Can anyone pass along some advice on the best methods and materials to get a highly polished look on the lip?

just my take without scannig prev replies

i like polish only and black petals. There is a difference when you have a tougher black paint than if you don't

if I cleared it road chips with the soon to be wheel oxidation would drive me nuts

I live on a sandbar 1,000' from high tide and a good routine keeping them brillant is no big deal. I've tried everything just finding out what routine I wanted.

I'd like to post a pic of them a little dirty. [They're just like my similar look 16x6. Long story on rennlist not accepting a phone call for a cc so i can't load a pic]

Maybe somebody else can post it ?

I have an almost brand new set of two 16's that I may want to trick out that are just sitting around. It's difficult to find a used Fuch without even a little bit of pitting in structual areas.

I never coated mine. I would just hit them with Nverdull after each wash.

yeah hit my pims with the Wurths as noted and they still look great at the end of the season . I think the clear looks terrible personally and the satic look is the way to go . That lip looks anodized and as hard a a freakin rock. i would WANT to mess with that so i just wipe them and they look fine.

Is this the name of the color used on the factory beige/gold Fuchs?

I've only seen them on 930s and 951s. I'm trying to find the factory color for them!

I did a polished look on my Fuchs. I did them myself and cost hardly anything, just a few hours of hard work. I have polished rims and petals and then black backgrounds.

how well does your car handle with a rear tail and not a front spoiler? How do you like your duck tail? I've been thinking about doing that myself. I was worried it wouldn't work (look) as good with our style bumpers, etc... Car looks awesome!
