Default 1989 Speedster values

I'm in the process of evaluating "89" Speedsters and see "asking" prices from $52 to $73K. Believe its a buyers market right now, so anyone got any ideas of what they are really worth right now? Dealers claim they re getting in low to mid 60's??. Any opinions on whether these are a worthy target as an investment?. Thanks,

It's a buyer's market for Porsches in general, but desirable rare cars aren't affected much. I agree with Edgy01's assessment.

Speedsters can vary greatly depending on mileage, condition and originality.

I agree. There is one in Dallas asking 56K, with 47,000 miles I'm inetrested in. Another is on ebay and has met its reserve and sits at 52K which looks immaculate and has 29k miles. Should go for aout 53-55K. Thansk for your reply. Bryan

Victoy motorcars in Houston claims they are moving Speedsters in the mid 60's range. In fact they are probably going after the Dalls car asking 56K and will no doubt resell at these higher prices if htey get it.
Dr. Strangelove is one of my all time favorites. Notice the incredible resembalnce to Dr. Henry Kissinger?

Default Even the prized Ferraris dropped in price dramatically during the last recession....

..in time every car will be a buyers market. The question is will you have the cash to buy them.

I am really sorry guys, but for under 15k, and under 10k cars in concours condition the market is going up, I have received two unsolicited offers in the low 70's on my car, and yes I was shocked, but buyers are out putting there money in different stuff than stocks... maybe I am the exception but I am pretty tight with the larger known speciality Porsche dealers and they confirm my experience.. granted this is only for extremely low mileage cars, the normal mileage cars are doing very well but that is where I agree with the very high 40's to mid 50's cars.... So my 2 cents worth on a Monday.

I would be a seller in the low 70's on Speedsters unless the car was a sub 2000 mile car. Yea the markets very thin on these since there are few. Forget what Victory says since they basically lie about everything. In a car like the 89 Speedster even greater value is placed on records, condition and miles. So yea I have seen them around in the last 6 months for the 50k range and I even saw one in the 40's, granted it had 85k miles on it. In order to narrow down the market you might want to consider things besides price. Are you going to drive it often or are you looking for a garage piece? Thats a big factor.

I want one!

They are VERY hard to find with low miles and in good condition. Prices are all over the map.

There is a red one at RPM for $90,000. http://www.rpmsportscars.com/door23.htm

Richard Sloan has one for sale, but it's green (which I don't think is the most desirable color) and 20k miles. He's asking $66K.

For the most part I just find Sloan's prices laughable

Re; Sloan, I think he's got a cadre of very high end buyers who are willing to pay super premium prices for the right car.

I don't think people who are just "generally in the market" buy from him very often, and I don't think he cares much about getting business from oridinary buyers. In other words, he wants to sell to collectors.

Sloan moves cars, so he must be pricing this stuff correctly. He's not moving cars like the local high volume Honda dealership, but his inventory turns quick enough.

I agree with Shaynes that ultra low mileage (sub 20,000 miles) cars will dramatically increase in price over the driver quality cars with mileage in line with average use per year.

I agree also with this. I need to be honest, I drove one of these and other then the flares and G-50 it wasn't any different then my '85 911. I would have trouble spending the extra coin on it.
