Panamera

I own two old Porsches, and I suppose that alone would make me most likely one of the crowd that isn't gonna like the Panamera.

I had some time on my hands today, and given that our local Porsche showroom is generally empty of customers, I stopped by. I spent an hour checking one out, and I gotta say, it's pretty darn nice, but much much bigger than it appeared in photos. Interior is very good, very comfortable, and very snug. The price better than I thought - an S model nicely equipped for $87k. I thought I was looking at $110k car.

That said, I would guess that the styling and concept isn't for everyone, and I suspect there will be a lot of people who do not like it, to say the least.

Gonna drive it Saturday. Not even remotely thinking about buying one, unless my faithful E39 M5 blows up, which I hope is never.

I much prefer the e39 M5 to the Panamera. The e39 M5 is a classic now that BMW has ruined the M moniker with too many electronic gizmos. Your M5 is one of the last of the great touring sedans aside from the 928.

Yeah - the "S" is 2wd. The 4S is AWD. Sticker at $87k seems rather low - that must be the base price - once you put any options on it, and there are a LOT of options, price jumps north of 100k rather quickly. Have fun driving it - I drove one during the Monterey weekend - it is simply an awesome drive. The looks aren't for everyone - but it is a really nice car.

The base price for an S with ZERO options is 89,900 thats without the 975 Porsche charges for frieght. At 87k you got something wrong

I reviewed all of the Pana S's that are either in stock, on a vessel, or in a production phase ranging from planned to on the finish line and the cheapest on wihich is either built or will be built is as follows. Price 92,810

Have a 118k 2S sitting on the floor and a 105k 4S outside. It all depends on what you want in it. In typical Porsche method everything is ala carte

Unfortunately I do not think the Panamera will really catch on. In this price range, I think a car has to make a potential buyer feel "Wow! I want that!" and this sedan just doesn't do it. When you probe the car, find out more about it, etc, it is a great machine. Great steak, ho-hum sizzle.

Everyone has their own opinion, the 20 or so we sold already makes me think its got a lot of wow factor since there has been pretty much only good comments about the car. Maybe you're a little closer to the people who buy these cars in whatever business you're in but in this showroom its been pretty positive.

If I am going for a "luxury family sedan" I rather spend the money on the big MB or BMW. With this economy and so many out there you can pick one up with low milage and with warranty at a very good price. Panasomething devalues P cars as the company just tries to build cars for the masses just as MB started to do 30 years ago. Frankly, I hope the project fails so the P gets the message. What next, a Ferrari SUV or a Porsche pick up truck or minivan? Please spare me the grief. Lets not dilute the gene pool....I want my P car to remain PUREBRED!

If I wanted a great touring car with some room, I'd look at one. Saw them @ Monterey back this Summer and liked it in person. Saw one today by the beach for the first time. Certainly is something fresh to look at.

There's no "message" to Porsche; they are in business to turn a profit and need to find new ways to grow sales. Let's face it, there's not a lot in common between our cars and a new 997 other than basic layout, so the term purebred needs to be defined.
