Built for USA consumption in 1968. The "L" was fully equipped as an "S" of that year, other than being fitted with a regular 911 engine. The "S" engine in 1968 did not meet emission requirements, so Porsche decided to build a "luxury" model, and the "L" was born.

And I "believe" that there were more L's sold in the US than there were normals...in coupe and in Targa configuration. But some of the chassis number breakdowns get a bit hard to read at times (some of them list the normals as "S"s....I wish!

Speaking of which, what is the best chassis number/build numbers link anyone has?

One of the striking differences with the 911 L was the elephant hide look of the leather interior. It was very coarse, but functional.
