I like this answer best! ^^
Finding one with records is like finding one with carfax from 1980's, the PPI will be your best bet.

As for cab's, I have a soft spot for them. If the 87 has a non-power top I would look deep into it. You got to unzip the rear window anyway so the power top made little since. Also, when a cable from the top decides to go on you, it's like a $3k+ fix. So manual IMO is the way to go.

I love my manual top. We know if we are gonna want it down before we get in anyway so it isn't a big deal to pop the latch, fold, and enjoy. That said, the next one will not be a cab.

Thanks for the replys guys. I like the look of targa over the cab, but full open air is nice. I have looked on eBay, craigslist, etc. While I have bought cars that were far away, they were all late model with less unknowns. The appeal of this car is that it is a friend of someone I trust, it is low miles and in good shape. There are 3 things wrong it, clock doesn't work, remote pass mirror doesnt work and one of the speakers is buzzing.
Has documentation back to early 90s, has been in socal for a half it's life, originally from vancouver bc.

I like high teens, but I do not think he will go there with price. He is at 22k now.

If truly those are the only things wrong with that car (after a thorough PPI with compression/leakdown), that car would be in my garage for 22k which is exactly what I paid for mine with 84k miles on it earlier this year in April.

That's the second time I've seen you pushing this car here. The other time was all but a blatant "ad" for it in a thread. Either pony up for the membership (read the rules) or quit the selling.
