Default Another "Whats this car worth thread"

Hey guys,

Been browsing for a '84-89 911 for a while. Primarlily looking for a Targa with under 85K miles and good history. Oh and a good price. I have very vague permission from my wife (first she siad I could buy when I sold/stopped racing, but she said last fall that maybe in summer 2011).

Long story short had lunch with a business associate today and he has a good friend in in SoCal Selling an '87 911 Cab, black on black on black, one owner 73k miles. New top and interior, described as mint. What is a fair price for this car in this market? As I understand he is not selling cause he needs to, he just does not drive it anymore.

I've been off and on shopping, but pricing for some time. Honestly, prices are all over the place.

If you like a widebody, this one looks interesting.

Otherwise, don't forget to to a global search on craigslist for targa's...at least you get idea of pricing.

use this syntax in google search (change out 1988 with whatever year)

1988 porsche targa site:craigslist.org

I'm not a fan of targas, but i REALLY like this one

You said 70k miles.....I'd say about 70% of the cars I see advertised have 70k miles....whats up with that number ? Seems like a sweet spot for these cars. On the other hand, many many advertised with 70k DO NOT look like they have only 70k on them (interior pics look nasty n some with bolsters worn to the nub etc.)....perhaps MANY more than that ?!
Lastly....make sure you goto Ebay....signin....and then search for targa's.....then select completed listings. This will tell you if anything has sold AND for what price.

Good luck.

High teens? Not enough info and no pics. It's all speculation anyway...

Good colors , plus the 'one owner' and 'mint' are great to hear. Just check it out pretty closely for the usual. If the description is accurate and no evils lurking, then high teens should be fair.

That top - if in need - is pretty costly. The Targa choice is a good one for open air with more rigidity, less complexity. Love mine.

Umm, that's an '89 Speedster with 1900 miles on it. Completely different market than run-of-the-mill Carrera cabriolets with mileage.

I guess I missed the results of the PPI, the in-depth description and the pics?

That's why I put a question mark. I just spent a couple of months car shopping, looking at some "mint" cars.

Early to mid-20s is what I would pay if car is in all original and mint condition with all service records since it's delivery and now with a very favorable PPI. Now if tires, battery etc have not been changed in the last 3 to 4 yrs then I would discount for that.
