You guys are going to love this...
Some of you might know I sold my awesome 911 a couple of weeks ago. And I bought an also awesome 997 Carrera S. Great car yaddi yaddi yadda...
So, guess what the first thing was I had to fix on the car?! A leaking COOLANT reservoir (the cap was leaky)!! I guess it's the aircooled gods punishing me

I don't mean to be negative... I hope you enjoy the 997. They are wonderful modern interpretations of the 911. Fast, comfortable, great brakes, sound good under full throttle.
I've been burned too many times by water cooled motors...hence my sarcasm. But I wish you good luck with the 997!

It's a 2006. If disaster strikes, the warranty should help... hopefully

I agree that the OP should not worry one bit about the IMS bearing due to the car being an '06 and having a warranty (I assume the car carries a CPO warranty directly from Porsche).
However, the threat is real for the '00 to '05 cars and the real shame is that Porsche is burying their head in the sand and letting an $8 under specified bearing ruin an otherwise robust motor design. Porsche should have designed a fix similar to Jake Raby's kit and then did a recall on these 2000 to 2005 motors. There have been enough instances written on web boards and also several specific cases even in my small local PCA that have left owners with very large expenses to fix a pretty high end automobile. For the money people pay for a 997 (and Boxster), there should be no worries of a cheap bearing ruining a $22,000 motor.
No car is perfect, but we should expect more from a high end car manufacturer like Porsche. Porsche dropped the ball big time in designing a motor to a price point and not a motor to last as you would expect from a premium product.
These are just my opinions...

Sargepug, you have the exact same Targa I had. Minus the silver Fuch spokes. Mine were black.
wOOt: thanks for the pep talk
Jay: I fully agree, hence why I avoided the 2005 and got the warranty. Just a piece of mind.

I was at a local Canadian Tire ( like a Canadian Autozone but does repair ) and there was a Boxster up un a flat bed they were bringing in ... i walked my son over to watch as they lowered it off the flatbed...
i was curious as to the failure .... As they tipped back the flat bad an ocean of oil came running down the ramp and i new immediately what it was ... I told the guy dont bother lowering the car as it had to go to Porsche and sure enough the mechanic came out took one look and said "get it out of here "
Internet hype my ***.... this is an all to real and present danger to any 00-05 engine owner..
