Default Access to upper rear shock nuts?

Everybody says the rear shock absorbers should be easier than the front strut inserts. Since I already had the brakes off, the fronts were pretty easy.

But the rear ones have me stumped. I can't even see the upper nuts, much less get ahold of them with a wrench or socket. How much junk do I need to remove to have some working room? And what are all of those things?

The A/C delete that I have been considering may get moved up in the priority list, as that's about the only thing I can identify as removable.

The shock point is right at the back of the engine compartment - what I am showing is the left side. You just need to be able to twist around the engine to get to it!

Remove the airbox and heater blower/duct, and you should have access.

Airbox and heater/blower duct, thanks. I think.

Got a 3/8" Ingersoll-Rand ratchet wrench, but I think I need a bigger compressor.

I'll work on this somemore when I get back from my 1st ever DE at Roebling Road!!! Having to take the Acura, as the Porsche is still in pieces.

Well, you'll kill the threads and won't be able to get the nut off. What's the correct allen size to go in the top--6 or 7mm? Been too long since I've done one, glad to not have had to take a corroded shock off in decades!

Yep, allen wrench for the top of the shock as per Ken. I had an older pair of Sachs a while back and the pin at the top narrowed with no threads. A pair of vice grips were required.

Air box cover and filter removal is required on a Carrera. Otherwise, it's just fitddly and time consuming and a bit of a PITA. Let us know what new words you come up with so we can try them next time we need to do the same job.

The bottom bolts are on pretty tight. Save yourself some effort by using jack stands and not just ramps if you're replacing with high pressure shocks. Having the trailing arm hanging at full droop helps a bunch.

Mine have tapered ends.
Only way is vice grips.
Yours will require an allen key.
