I've been cleaning up my 25,000 mile '85 930 for a few weeks & have it looking SO much better! However, the rims really need some attention.

Although they don't have any curb rash, they are very faded and just don't look that nice anymore. I'm guessing that the original finish was a semi-flat black, but I have no idea.

What's the best way to bring these back to life? Repaint? wax? polish?

Lots and lots of threads on this. Some use Vaseline to beautify the wheel, some paint with satin rustoleum BBQ grill paint. Sorry I can't give more advice on this subject.

I used Vaseline and worked great

The finish came back and some scratches became a little more apparent. However big difference from before.

For better results make sure the rims are clean first

The "best" way is to send them off to an artist/refinisher like Harvey Wiedemann or Al Reed!

Stripping the original finish is the real bitch in this project. I'd not rattle can a new finish on to a nice car like yours.

The Vline may help for now.

If you want to DIY the wheels, I've read that Rustoleum 7777 Flat Black is a very close match to the factory finish. There are many posts here and on Pelican about polishing and spraying Fuchs wheels.
