Ooohhhhh.....:-( I can't even begin to tell you how heartbroken I am for you, Ed. My wife and I have been married 25 years, and have no (human) children. Hence, our dogs are our children. I can't even begin to fathom the loss when either one of my two Italian Greyhounds eventually pass. Those two are my two special boys.

Thanks for posting all of those beautiful, cute pictures of your beloved Kai.

I just saw this post and want to say that you have such a big heart to give a senior dog a wonderful home on her final journey. It's so courages and selfless....knowingly get into such situation. I share your pain of feeling the loss since I lost mine earlier this year after 14.5 years; but I hope you can also feel proud to have done such an act and gald to know that Kai is no longer suffering.

Ed;

I have belonged to old english rescue now for 25 yrs. We have adopted a total
of five over the years and it never gets easier when they leave us. I am attaching a poem the rescue group sends out when notified of a passing.

Good luck and God bless.

Thank you guys. That is the tough part-we're not ready for them to go, but they are ready to go.

Someone gave the Rainbow Bridge story to us when we lost our Charlie 3 years ago, it was comforting in that awful period.

Man Ed...so sorry to hear that. We've lost 2 Corgies in the last few years and we still with those pups were around. Had to get more...can't be withoug a pooch...or two. That third pic in the first post is hysterical.

Ed, Kai looks like a fantastic friend in all your pictures. My condolences to you and yours. We had a yellow lab when I was growing up who died of lung cancer while I was away at university. It's especially tough when you're not there.

From the pictures it looks like you have many great memories with Kai - keep those memories alive!

Sad to hear this. From the pictures and Kai's expression, looks like Kai had a great life and home. He could not have been happier. The passing though, reminds us to not take everything for granted.

Out of curiosity, does the name Kai mean anything? It is a great name for a pet.

Dogs are great companions. I hope that your family finds another great companion, if that is what you wish. I'm sure Kai will Rest in Peace.

Best of luck.

Take care!

Thank you. We got his ashes back this morning, so he's very much on our mind today. Kai is a word that means water or ocean in Polynesian, and he sure loved the water. There is also evidence of this being a name used in Wales and England, and I've read that in the old Cornish language, it meant "dog".

He came with it when we adopted him, at least he was chipped with that name, so we kept it. Strange, the shelter contacted that registered owner when they got him. He said "I got rid of that darned dog years ago". Unbelievable how someone could ever have gotten rid of such a great and fun dog.

^Some people have no soul, Ed. But, this prooves that dogs do have souls. How else could Kai have put up with such an asshat all those years and then been so loving with you and your wife?
