Im looking at Trading my 99 996 for this car and wanted to get your thoughts on it. I am not as well versed in the aircooled world as I am the watercooled...
thanks for any help!

Nevermind...
"Complete engine swap out of a 1986 Carrera. 3.2 liter with Motronic making 217hp."

"915 gearbox with new 1st and 2nd gear syncros"

This is good news. The 915 is a weak box, IMHO, but if the synchros are fixed, you're in good shape there. My other issue would be if it still has the trombone oil cooler in the front right wheel well. If so, you'll need to upgrade to a radiator type, which is around $1500 (I think...been some time). Regardless, I'd add this: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...%20Air%20Scoop

Just sold my '75 with a 3.2 and it was a blast to drive. The lighter weight chassis with the big 3.2 is a perfect combo and the engine is never stressed. Only issue with the early mid-year cars is that they were not galvanized in '75 and corrosion might be an issue. An expensive issue.

Thanks for the info all!
I'll have to ask about oil cooler.. thanks for the tip.
Yes, the seats dont look orig.. im sure they arent.. but I would be pulling anyway and putting in some sparco's in BK mounts with a BK harness bar/ b pillar brace.
this is a 77.. so should be galvanized..?
Ed,
Ive been off the forum for a bit.. and I havnt see your 911 running around.. you still driving it?

Nice looking car. Take the seats out for sure...why put heavier electric seats in a light car.... defeats the purpose. Make the trade (totally unbiased opinion )

Not much on that car is 1977 vintage. But yes - the 3.2 is a good upgrade if done well.

Also make sure you check the in the tunnel fuel lines -

wow - looks nice!

3.2 is a pretty good motor!

yea, I have just come back from a long time of mostly dormant activity here - I drive the little red car almost everyday - a few days break here and there but when faced with the question of "suburban or Porsche" in the morning the answer isnt a tough one

as for this car - you could put your old seats back in your car and put your good seats in this one - a quick steering wheel swap and drive the pants off it. I have 3 years of basically perfect driving history - love my car more each day and SOOOOO glad that it is not the 996 (not that the 996 was bad, it's just not the same by any stretch of imagination...the earlier cars are way more fun everyday)

I have had about 3-4 rides in 356's lately - now you're not going to track a car like that but WOW are they fun too!! - but a lot of tinkering unlike the 3.2 which is as reliable as any modern car I have ever owned - we have an impromptu GTG for the Winter Beer Fest this Saturday if you have time - I am thinking of going, but family right now is pulling the reigns

Why do you want an aircooled 911? I would spend some time and test drive as many local ones as you can. Why? because none of them will drive/feel like your '99 does. Do you need effective AC? Do you want modern egonomics? Do you want to build up your left leg and arm strength?

x2 on there not being much '77 in that '77 ad. Make you wonder why someone would mod up a '77 instead of just looking for a matching SC or 3.2 911 instead.
