PPI turned up $13k in problems. I emailed the seller and he said, it's a 23 year old car, what do you expect???? Anyway, too many serious and costly issues to make it a driver or even a DE toy. No evidence that any maintenance had been done except for oil changes. Dipstick was missing and when the shop inserted a new one it didn't find any oil. The seller won't budge on his $19,900 price. Oh we'll, many other cars will be popping up as spring arrives. Anyone else come across this car pm me and I will share the ppi.

20k! Hah. That's funny. I picked up my '86 last summer in very good condition for $17k. Didn't need a thing except a Seine gate shift kit to "fix" the 915. You'll find a better deal for sure.

Correct!

Regarding needing a top-end job on the engine, I'm afraid you will have to drive it in order to determine oil consumption. If it uses a quart per 200-300 miles; fix it now! If it uses a quart per 1,000 + miles, leave it alone. Original clutch at 118K miles is just about done. Make sure you have the brake hoses replaced and the brake fluid flushed. Also, you'll want to replace the fuel hoses in the engine compartment. The other stuff? Time will tell...

I returned the car to his ex-wife today and she was not too happy to see it back. She lives in an apartment and has only one covered space where the 911 had been living for the last 2 years. I explained what I had found and she couldn't believe the ex didn't sell the car to me. She had the title sitting on the table for me. The final insult came when the snow began to fall as I walked out her door and her car was sitting out, uncovered from the elements. My only hope is she will give her ex so much crap that he will call me and have me take it..... Anyway, I wasn't really looking, although I am always looking. I just sold my Turbo less than 2 weeks ago but am having a difficult time being Porscheless.

Based on the information posted I would continue your search. I would not let distance be a factor, although I do understand the apprehension. I have found some really nice cars in Phoenix for instance.

a lot of engins with more , it depends
(my motor rebuilt at 120k miles)

for the fuchs dimensions , the origin was 6' and 7' for the standard (in europe)

just in order to compare market , this car as per this description is around
28 kusd in france ...............
(just to explain why a lot of european are going to buy in your country)

i dream of your market prices...

you should have had hs wife sell it to you for 10 bucks .. then she can give him his half

anyway.. unfortunately a predictable result .. personally to me those issues were minor .. and could have been a great project car ... but if he wouldnt budge off his asking .. you were pretty much doomed.

Way to little. The G50 cars are getting harder and harder to come by. By it while you can.

I received an email this morning from the owner of the '89 911. He has agreed to sell me the car so I am going to pick her up today. It will be an expensive and timely endeavor to bring her back to her glory but I believe I can do it if I am careful with the budget. The car does have some nice options including factory leather sport seats, LSD, wing and option code 900....anyone? That is factory delivery.

The good:
2 owner california car
good factory options
top-end was rebuilt a few years back
The bad:
cosmetics are rough
no records

Thanks to everyone for your advice, etc.

MM

Agreed. Even though the car was sitting for 3+ years the compression numbers were good. The two worst cylinders were 9% and 6% and I know they will improve after I drive the car.

I plan to do everything to bring the car's maintenance up to spec (valve adjustments, plugs, coil, wires, all fluids, etc.). I hope to have it running well by the end of the next week.

I started a new thread in this section titled "New 3.2 Owner" where I will be posting many pictures of my progress.

Thank you!
