Porsche or no Porsche???

This scene plays out here from time to time and is never pleasant. USEDTOBEACARGUY, look to the left, see where it says "Water Cooled" or "Turbo" and bring this discussion over there. This 911 Forum is for cars 1989 and older, and you're not getting anywhere anyway.
Good luck with your purchase. There are many many cars out there that would more than fit your bill.

The cars you're looking at or criticizing, NOTACARGUY, are not 911's. They're Water Cooled 997's or 991's. This is where you should be posting.

C'mon, now - be fair. They still put the "911" badge on the back if you ask for it. You have to admit it's confusing for those who haven't paid very close attention to the progression over the years.....

911 - originally named the 901 until it had to be changed - 911 I think infers first gen - I own a 911 6th GEN (997 internal designation) therefore, I hang out in the 997 corner of this forum -
My thoughts are, as I have followed this thread, is that I am actually confused about what you are looking for.
There was a ton of talk about money and these massive figures and it almost feel like the topic has been misdirected because of dollar amounts and Ferrari this and that/showing off buying power.
911s are a thoroughbred sports cars. I still can't wrap my head around a $200K C4 Cab ... if you want handling go hardtop - the wonderful thing about all the options you have with 911s is that you can buy what you want and nobody can tell you otherwise but, I personally feel you are lost and don't know what you want.
My advice - lease a 911 991 (7th gen) and drive it for 6 months or so ... also compare it to the 6th Gen (what I drive - 2005-2012) before you lease and you will see that the feedback on that car (while driving) is different as it does not have electric steering and is closer to the classic in that respect.
I guess the biggest point here is to drive some cars and feel it out before you just build a $200K 911cab 4S and order it from Porsche.com best wishes on your adventure and definitely give the P-cars a chance, they are special!

E: Many times I'd win with the faster car sometimes because I'd get so far ahead in the straightaways that their extra cornering ability wouldn't matter. I am personally more impressed with a cars handling capability than 0-60 times. I think I have tried making that clear. I could go buy a new Turbo and be faster in the straightaways and the corners than you if I wanted but I am pondering what I find fun (manual stick shift) with less power in the 4S.
If you don't get my point you are just being a jealous loser.

Burning Brakes
Wow! One post and now, 54 responses! OP is definitely a conversation starter for this Board. Just think, this whole discussion could be played out on any Board for any vehicle, Mercedes, BMW, etc. But maybe not Fiat, Chevy Volt, X Box...

There is something to be said with the old cars, no electronic monitors to save you, makes you learn to manualy drive a car both with the transmission and saving you and the car in the corners by executing corners correctly. 0-60 is just a way for magazines to help sell cars, it tells you nothing of the dynamics of a car. I sell Porsche's and can tell you that I have sold and taken back many Turbo S cars, because once you do the launch control a few times you are over it. If you get bored with exceleration in todays cars, just jump on a Hyperbike like a busa,zx1400, or if it must be european K1300s or 1000RR. Those will wake you up fast, dont ask me how I know

A few thoughts after reading through this mess of a thread:
*Who buys a $188k C4S Cab?
*Who spends almost $200k on a car and then worries about maintenance costs?
*Why brag about winning races with turns in them when it's clear all you want to do is drive the salt flats?
*Why are you not buying a Corvette Zr1? I'm sure the maintenance will be cheaper and you can obliterate everyone in the straights, until you eventually miss a braking point and smash it up.
*This thread is funny. But it still sucks.
