Default Time for new tires. What are you running on your 911?

I am about to get my 86 Targa or on the road after sitting for a couple of years. Needs new tires. What are you running?

Are you using these for street or track? I'm looking for a street tire.

My car is used strictly for long trips up or down the coast. (Well, OK, there is the occasional trip up the canyon.)

We went on an 800+ mile trip last month and could not break the back end loose for nothin'. Hwy 101 to Hwy 1 all the way from Los Angeles to Monterrey and back. Lot's of remote off camber change of incline turns and none of them even remotely worried me.

I have rear toe set as near to zero as I could get it (will be adding a bit of toe-in this weekend because at freeway speed there is the slightest of tendency to wander side to side) and have the camber set at -1* so as to preserve the tires as long as possible, and because I have no plans of getting it sideways in turn 3 anytime soon.

Most would say this was a stupid choice of tires for a car used as a GT at best, but man what an improvement. Maybe some of the improvement is the lower ride height and dialing out some of the negative camber, but I think it is primarily the tires.

I have 2 sets of tires, both 225/45 and 205/55

Dunlop Direzza and Bridgestone RE-11a... both awesome tires. Since I dont really drive in the rain... I prefer the Dunlop. It is slightly stickier the the RE-11a... but I dont think you can go wrong with either.

BTW, if you get the summer sticky tires you'll get about 20k miles out of them...sticky comes at a price but the 911 deserves it.

20k miles sounds great. I would be happy with that.

Those look nice. But 200 thread wear... keep us posted on how many miles you get out of them. Just curious. I will need a set of tires for the '81 (when I finally get it back from the body shop )

I am using kumho ecstas. I had 25, 000 on the set until I got a puncture in one. I really like the grip, price and durability.

I used their "R" rated routes in the track but never tried their street tires. I'll have to look into them.

Anyone use Pilot Sports our Continental DWs on their 911? I ruin pilot sport 2s on my M3. I like them. Not sure that they come in the size for the fronts (205).

Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2. Nice and smooth. One the best choices for the 16" Fuchs.

Another here with Bridgestone re-11a. Mixed street and track, Absolutely love them.
