SC - Carrera
This may be a dumb question, but I am a bit confused. I have seen several postings over the last couple of years indicating a difference between the SC and Carrera. My 82 911 (I thought SC) has the Carrera script on the deck lid.
What is the difference between the SC and Carrera, if any?

I think commonly it goes like that:
78-83 = super carrera = SC says "911 SC" on trunk
84-88 = carrera, says "Carrera" on trunk
Very similar looking cars. The SC has the 3.0, the Carrera the 3.2. Other external differences are the front valance / fog lights.
I don't know how your SC could end up with 'carrera' on its lid. The lids interchange, so you might have a later lid? Also, a 911 could come with the badge delete if you ordered it from the factory (nothing on there). If yours was a badge delete, someone might have stuck the later 'carrera' script on there. The carrera script is a glued on script while the SC is a bolted on script. Someone might not have wanted to drill holes or liked the Carrera better.
I personally have a Carrera lid on the back right now, while the SC lid gets the badge delete (holes already welded). I will keep it a delete car for cleaner looks. That SC script is horribly 70s. I don't want to mislead, otherwise I'd prefer the Carrera script over the SC. I think it is stupid that it says 911SC, even a 5 year old knows it is a 911.

Many not in the know will call any 911 a "Carrera"...that's been going on since the 70s. It's possible the P.O. just wanted it to "be" a Carrera, thus added the badge separately. Not a big deal...but wrong.
To be more accurate, every normally aspirated 911 since '84 has been called a Carrera. But when most people talk of "SCs and Carreras" they're referring to the 80's cars. When they speak of the later 964 911s, they'll refer to them as C2 and C4, designating "Carrera 2" for two wheel drive and "Carrera 4" for all wheel drive. After the 993 911s came out, they just called them "911 Carrera" for the standard and "911 Carrera 4" for the all wheel drive version. Then...they added wider bodywork and called them "911 Carrera S" and "911 Carrera 4S"...or just C4S. Although with the 993 cars, most owners actually refer to them as "993"s instead of "911"s to differentiate them from the 964 cars and the later 996 cars. Ditto the 996 owners. Confused? ...yeah, me too.

geo, what kind of suspension and tires do you have on your car? I have seen a 911 lift the inside front tire, but that looks like a good 2 inches of air under there. Care sharing your setup?
thanks,

Top secret, sorry.
You are basically looking at a car with a stiff rebuilt front suspension and stock non-rebuilt rear suspension. Hence I think the car squats in the rear left tremendously, leading to that front right lift. I haven't seen footage since I am donewith the rear rebuild, but am positive that it doesn't lift like that any more. Oh, have I mentioned the street tires and the fact that I had to drop the pressure much in the back to get a bit of throttle steering capability?
So, I think, it isn't an ideal setup but the crowd loved it, that's for sure.
Cheers, George

My car also has the "Carrera" script on the back. I know it does not belong. Past owner thought it was cooler with the "Carrera". Unfortunately, it is glued on. I just am scared to peel it off. The "911SC" is sitting in the pass. door pocket.

Trust me:
Where did the holes go that the SC script leaves? Does the carrera script cover it? Go look from the inside of the lid and see if you have any traces of holes. You may have a car that came with the delete option and someone glued the carrera on there. Then you would have to drill to put the SC script or you would have to modify the SC script (remove the studs) so it can be glued on.
Removing the script should't be a problem if you heat it with a hair dryer. But who knows, I'd probably leave it on there to be safe.

Three Wheelin'
As soon as I got my SC, I removed the Carrera badge the PO added. The hair dryer did the trick perfectly, though I was quite nervous. Make sure you heat it thoroughly, and don't pull too hard.

Pulling off glued on badges makes me nervous. (Badges!??! We don't need no stinkin' badges!!!) I had a turbo look Carrera that the P.O. actually put a "turbo" script badge on. I REALLY wanted to take it off, but I was afraid I'd ruin the paint, and couldn't afford to repaint the decklid. I hear a lot of people do it, and do it fine, but you just never know what that adhesive has done to the paint.
